1. Climate Week NYC - IT Services and Net Zero Buildings: Carrier CEOÂ David Gitlin and Kyndryl CEO Martin Schroeter are set to discuss the intersection of sustainability, business, and energy innovation during a fireside chat today. The discussion, set for Climate Week NYC, is organized by Financial Times Live in partnership with Carrier and JLL.
2. Research - ESG Reporting: A record 93% of Russell 1000 companies published a sustainability report in 2023, up from 90% in 2022, according to the Governance & Accountability Institute (G&A).
3. Launch - Financial Services and Consulting: Plutus Consulting Group has launched Green Capital Partners, a consultancy service dedicated to "empowering businesses and organizations in the realm of sustainable finance. Key partners include Aspire Performance Improvement, a management consultancy specializing in business and technology diagnostics.
4. Launch - Consulting Business:Â Chiefly & Co., a women-led fractional executive consultancy, has launched to assist "forward-thinking organizations driven to accelerate sustainability with responsible business excellence." Founder and CEO Melanie Mercier previously was VP at Black Rock. Key Chiefly & Co. areas of expertise include sustainability strategy, sustainable technology, operational excellence, finance and profitability, brand and communications, social and cultural alignment, innovation and transformation, compliance and reporting, and executive support, the company said.
5. EV Charging Spin-Off: Siemens plans to spin off its EV charing business, which includes various managed services for EV charging networks. Siemens did not disclose a specific spinout date, nor did the company mention a valuation for the the eMobility business unit.
6. EV Chargers - Criminal Activity: Criminals are stealing copper cables from U.S. EV charging stations, essentially rendering some charging locations useless, Bloomberg reported.
7. Partnership - Software: Amazon Web Services (AWS) and SLB are partnering to explore low carbon technologies for the energy industry. Moreover, Energy Data Insights from AWS is compatible with SLB’s new Lumi data and AI platform, the companies said.
8. Partnership - AI and Weather Forecasting: IBM and NASA, with an assist from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, have developed a new AI foundation model that allows "scientists, developers, and businesses to better understand and analyze weather and climate data," the organizations said.
9. Partnership - Residential Solar Energy: Under a national partnership agreement, Sunrun will provide solar power and storage to Toll Brothers homes. Sunrun is Toll Brothers' exclusive solar partner in California, and preferred partner to additional Toll Brothers divisions nationwide, the companies said
10. Partnership - Quantum Computing: The United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC) and Quantum Delta NL are partnering to "explore quantum technologies for the UN system."
11. Partnership - Smart Buildings and Higher Education: Johnson Controls will donate $3 million to Clemson University to fund a sustainability-focused research center, student scholarships and smart building research.
12. Renewable Energy Goals: A goal to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030 and cut fossil fuel use is within reach, the International Energy Agency said, but will require a huge push to unlock bottlenecks such as permitting and grid connections, Reuters reported.
13. Market Forecast - Green Hydrogen Challenges: McKinsey has reduced its long-term clean hydrogen demand predictions due to high costs, regulatory hurdles, and uncertainty in key sectors, Energy Central reported.
14. Talent: Mint Innovation, which develops low carbon biotechnology to sustainably produce green metals from e-waste, has hired Jason Price as the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the company said.
15. Layoffs: Origin Materials layoffs will impact 28% of staff. The company is striving to reduce its cash burn rate. Origin's mission is to "enable the world’s transition to sustainable materials." The company had a $19.5 million net loss in Q2 of 2024, compared to a $6.5 million net loss in Q2 of 2023. Still, Origin reaffirmed a "pathway to profitability requiring no additional equity capital."
B. Sustainability M&A, Climate Tech Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Accelerator: The Amazon Sustainability Accelerator selected 11 startups for various trial opportunities across Europe. The trials -- spanning the UK, Denmark, France, Germany, and Spain -- will:
- test new ways to recycle electronic waste;
- explore innovative packaging methods;
- trial ground-breaking building materials; and
- use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve energy efficiency.
2. Portal - How to Find Climate Tech Funding: The state of Washington has launched FundHubWA to help users find climate friendly grants, rebates and tax incentives, GeekWire reported.
3. Funding - EV Transition: Investment firm Monroe Capital, working with the Biden Administration, plans to launch a fresh fund of up to $1 billion to provide loans for smaller auto suppliers as the industry shifts from gasoline-powered to electric vehicles.

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies and News
1. United States vs. China: The U.S. Commerce Department proposed prohibiting key Chinese software and hardware in connected vehicles on American roads due to national security concerns, Reuters reported. The move would effectively bar Chinese cars and trucks from the U.S. market, the report added.
