ManageEngine President Touts IT Monitoring Software, RMM for Sustainable Energy Management

June 13, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

ManageEngine is one of the few MSP software providers pitching IT monitoring software for energy consumption management and companywide sustainability initiatives.

Two anecdotal proof points: In separate articles, ManageEngine President Rajesh Ganesan (pictured above) describes how green IT services can support sustainability goals across multiple countries and regions, and how sustainable technology can future-proof organizations.

ManageEngine, the enterprise IT management software division of Zoho, is based in India and Pleasanton, California. In addition to supporting corporate IT departments, ManageEngine develops Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) and automation software for MSPs.

ManageEngine: IT Software for Energy Consumption Monitoring

Take a closer look, and ManageEngine's software can effectively monitor energy consumption in buildings, devices and cloud infrastructure, a Bernama report asserts.

Armed with that energy consumption data, organizations can then "implement green practices, such as investing in renewable and solar energy, whilst ensuring that they are complying with local regulations and growing responsibly in the real of energy transition and sustainable development," Ganesan said, according to the Bernama report.

In a separate editorial for InformationWeek, Ganesan described how "prioritizing sustainability can also drive cost savings, innovation, and long-term business viability. For these reasons, it should live at the top of every boardroom agenda, influencing IT practices, company workspaces, and technology workloads."

Dig a little deeper, and IT monitoring software can help customers to comply with sustainability regulations such as CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and various green building laws that are emerging in the United States, advocates assert.

Still, much of Ganesan's editorial messaging focused on end-customer sustainability strategies. ManageEngine's president did not mention how MSPs can potentially leverage multi-tenant RMM software to support green IT services across numerous customer environments.

Channel Partners, MSPs and Sustainable IT Services

Generally speaking, the shift toward sustainable IT services is an early-stage work in progress. Alas, only 16.7% of IT professionals worldwide consider sustainability a top issue, according to The Register. But there are anecdotal signs of urgency and progress on several fronts. For instance:

  • Environmental sustainability is now a Top 10 business priority for CEOs, according to Gartner.
  • Roughly 50% of organizations will leverage sustainability monitoring technology to manage hybrid cloud energy consumption by 2026, Gartner predicts.
  • MSPs such as Logicalis are betting heavily on sustainable IT services.
  • Amid that backdrop, roughly 50% of partners worldwide said that they expect to generate revenue from sustainability solutions in 2024 – up three percentage points from 47% in 2023, according to research firm Canalys.

Meanwhile, Major MSP software providers -- companies such as ConnectWise, Kaseya, NinjaOne and N-able -- have yet to announce sustainability-focused software initiatives.

Still, some MSP market activity has started. For instance, PC Powersave, a software tool to reduce computer energy consumption and generate environmental reports -- is a finalist in the Pitch IT 2024 startup accelerator competition organized by ConnectWise.

And of course, ManageEngine is touting its IT management software to monitor energy consumption. We'll be watching to see if that messaging begins to target MSPs and channel partners.
