Here is today’s sustainable IT services news, research and analysis -- written for technology partners, green IT service providers, CIOs, chief sustainability officers (CSOs) and climate accounting professionals.

A. Sustainable Technology, Talent, Partnerships and Green IT Alliances

1. Partner of the Year: Microsoft has named Cognite as its 2024 Energy and Resources Part of the Year. Cognite's software leverages Microsoft Azure to offer generative AI functionality. "Customers benefit from simple access to complex industrial data and digital twin capabilities, increasing the efficiency of energy workflows by 10x," Cognite said.

2. Partnership - Emerging Markets: The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the IFRS Foundation together are striving to improve sustainability and climate reporting in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs), the two organizations said.

3. Partnership - Climate Risk Software and Consulting: dClimate and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have partnered to assist customers with climate risk intelligence.

4. Partnership - ESG Software and Consulting: FuturePlus and CorpCare have partnered to assist Caribbean organizations with their ESG and sustainability strategies.

5. Data Centers In Space? Deploying data centers into space could offer a more sustainable solution for hosting and processing data, a feasibility study from Thales Alenia Space asserts.

6. Training - Clean Energy Workforce: Budderfly, an Energy as a Service provider, is partnering with trade schools nationwide to train energy technicians on heat pumps, ultra-high-performance HVAC units, advanced HVAC control systems, and clean energy solutions. Lincoln Tech in Connecticut is an early partner on the effort.

7. ESG Reporting Software: insightsoftware, which develops software for CFOs and finance executives, has launched an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). The initial focus area is the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

8. Supply Chain Management: Pure Strategies, a sustainability consulting firm, has launched Pure Supply. The new platform that provides a way to "engage, educate, and execute solutions in the supply chain, empowering suppliers with clear information, guidance, and support for reaching renewable energy and climate targets," the company said.

B. Sustainability M&A, Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches

1. M&A - Energy Storage: Generac Power Systems has acquired PowerPlay Battery Energy Storage Systems, a division of SunGrid Solutions Inc. PowerPlay develops Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) solutions for commercial and industrial (C&I) projects up to 7 MWh. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

2. M&A - Real Estate Decarbonization: Galvanize Real Estate (GRE) has acquired a 245,000 sq. ft. industrial asset in Southern New Jersey. GRE expects to add rooftop solar and make other energy-efficient improvements to increase the asset’s net operating income (NOI). Galvanize’s sustainable real estate strategy seeks to invest in and decarbonize industrial, residential, student housing, and self-storage properties while improving cash flow and increasing asset value.

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies and News

1. Global Carbon Removal: The global market for carbon dioxide (CO2) removal credits could reach up to $100 billion a year between 2030 and 2035 from $2.7 billion last year if barriers to its growth are addressed, Reuters reported, based on findings by management consultancy Oliver Wyman.

2. United States - Energy Transition Sentiment: American support for renewable energy and electric vehicles is fading with Republicans leading the decline, Bloomberg reported, deepening a partisan divide on clean energy initiatives ahead of November’s US election, according to Pew Research Center.

3. Germany - Advertising Policy: A German court ordered that companies must clarify the term “climate neutral” in their advertising, The Wall Street Journal reported, the latest European ruling to tackle so-called “greenwashing” as companies compete to win over eco-conscious consumers.
