B. Sustainability M&A, Climate Tech Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Funding Slowdown - Climate Tech Software: Annual funding for climate software startups was $4 billion through November 2024, compared with $5.8 billion annually in each of the preceding three years, PitchBook reported. Still, there is still tons of white space to be found, whether that is in carbon accounting, Earth data, or building energy efficiency, PitchBook asserted.
2. Renewable Energy Investments: U.S. investor Acadia Infrastructure Capital along with Microsoft and several other partners are developing a $9 billion pipeline of renewable energy projects across the United States, Reuters reported. The effort includes launching the Climate and Communities Investment Coalition (CCIC), which will help corporations support clean energy projects that provide community benefits in the United States. Over the next five years, the group expects to help prevent approximately 15 billion pounds of carbon from entering the atmosphere per year, and generate enough energy to power over 850,000 homes, the CCIC said.
