August 5, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Here is today’s sustainable IT services news, research and analysis -- written for technology partners, green IT service providers, CIOs, chief sustainability officers (CSOs) and climate accounting professionals.

A. Sustainable Technology, Talent, Partnerships and Green IT Alliances

1. Partnership - Carbon Emissions Data: Anodot now offers cloud cost management and carbon emissions data (from GreenPixie) through a single pane of glass.

2. Partnerships - ESG Data: MioTech, which provides sustainability data and software, will form more partnerships with ratings and verification firms to expand its business and help clients meet regulatory demands, SCMP reported.

3. Talent - Data Center Facilities Management: Divcon Controls, a global systems integrator focused on data center facilities management and monitoring, has named Melinda Lawrence as CFO and Kristi Erickson as chief people officer. CEO Kevin Timmons arrived in April 2024. Goldman Sachs invested in Divcon Controls in February 2024.

4. Generative AI: Global IT service provider Kyndryl has outlined four steps to make generative AI more sustainable. Moreover, Kyndryl continues to enhance its managed IT services platform with sustainable IT services capabilities.

5. AI Chip Delay: Nvidia apparently will delay the delivery of its next-generation AI chips -- known as Blackwell. Nvidia apparently needs to correct Blackwell design flaws before shipping the new AI chips, Bloomberg Radio reported.

6. AI Talent: Google has hired the co-founders of AI startup Character.AI and will license the startup's large language models, SeekingAlpha reported. Character.AI's technology can develop chatbots that emulate celebrities. The hires reinforce a growing trend in the AI sector, where technology giants hire talent and license technology from AI startups -- rather than outright acquire the startups. The move sometimes is designed to avoid antitrust inquiries, though some regulators are starting to take a look at the business practice of hiring talent and licensing technology.
