Deloitte, IBM Integrate Sustainability Software Data to Assist Customers' Net Zero Strategies

November 28, 2023 by Joe Panettieri

Global IT consulting firm Deloitte and IBM are integrating their sustainability software to "help clients accelerate emissions reductions strategies and make sustainability programs an embedded part of their organization’s core business."

Through the collaboration, customers can leverage multiple IBM solutions and can integrate data from the IBM Envizi ESG Suite with Deloitte’s GreenLight Solution, the two companies said.

Deloitte launched the GreenLight Solution in March 2023. The SaaS application is built on CortexAI — Deloitte's artificial intelligence (AI) platform for data management and analytics. The initial GreenLight Solution supports:

  • 150,000 emissions factors and 200 real-world tested emissions abatement projects involving maritime and air travel, and steel manufacturing, Deloitte said.
  • Insight into the potential financial impacts associated with different climate action initiatives, including access to resources from a global credits and incentives hub covering 16,000 programs in 70 countries that can help identify tax credits and incentives by category, solution or geography, Deloitte noted.

Meanwhile, IBM says the Envizi ESG Suite allows customers to:

  • Automate the collection and consolidation of ESG data and the calculation of GHG emissions;
  • streamline ESG reporting to support compliance and reporting requirements; and
  • leverage data insights and integrations with operational systems to help drive sustainability performance across the organization.

Deloitte and IBM: Executive Perspectives on Sustainability Software Integrations

In a prepared statement about the Deloitte-IBM integrations, Marcus Goetz, partner and global sustainability and climate technology marketplace leader at Deloitte, said: “The climate crisis requires urgent action, yet organizations are struggling to get data-driven insights that would enable them to think more strategically and make the right decision. Through integration of IBM’s Envizi with Deloitte’s GreenLight Solution, organizations can leverage their existing investments in IBM solutions to rapidly access the data needed, enhance insights and better understand their options for accelerated action toward their climate and sustainability goals.”

Added IBM's Christina Shim, global head of product management/strategy, sustainability software: “IBM is committed to helping our customers around the world accelerate their journey in optimizing their business operations and achieving emissions commitments. That’s why we have added natural language processing into our sustainability offerings — to improve and help accelerate decision-making when it comes to activities that can affect the future of the planet, especially for Scope 3 emissions. This expanded collaboration with Deloitte builds on our ongoing relationship, making it easier for our mutual clients to apply a strategic lens to their sustainability efforts, enabled by Deloitte’s deep experience and capabilities in sustainable business transformation.”

Additional Sustainability Software Partnerships

Meanwhile, Deloitte and IBM each have been busy building sustainability-oriented partnerships with multiple companies.

Noteworthy Deloitte sustainability relationships include AT&T, Circulor, Google Cloud and Workiva, among many others.

Noteworthy IBM sustainability relationships include Digital Realty data centers, EY, the New York Stock Exchange and member companies, among many others. It's safe to expect additional partnerships to surface during the IBM Think 2024 conference, which is scheduled for May in Boston, Massachusetts.
