Deloitte Sustainability Consulting Timeline: Climate Tech Developments, Green IT Services Partnerships, M&A and More

Deloitte, the global IT consulting firm, continues to expand its sustainability, climate tech and green IT services for partners and customers.

Among the key executives to know:

• Kathryn Alsegaf, global chief sustainability officer, is driving the company's overall march toward net zero.
• Jennifer Steinmann, global sustainability and climate practice leader, oversees the group that assists customers with their net-zero journeys.
• Marcus Goetz, partner and global sustainability and climate technology marketplace leader.

Within Deloitte's own business, the company by 2030 will strive to:

• Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 70% from a 2019 base year.
• Reduce scope 3 GHG emissions from business travel 50% per FTE from a 2019 base year.
• Source 100% renewable electricity for the company's buildings.
• Convert 100% of its fleet to hybrid electric and electric vehicles.

The company also plans to engage with suppliers with the goal of having 67% (by emissions) set science-based targets by 2025. The company also expects to invest in meaningful market solutions for emissions we cannot eliminate.

Deloitte Sustainability Consulting Partnerships, Services: February Milestones

• Partnership - IT Services and ESG Software: Deloitte has expanded its alliances with Informatica and Workiva to "support clients as they build their environmental, social and governance (ESG)  implementation and data management capabilities." The resulting reporting solution can "help clients accelerate ESG deployments and reporting with accurate, verifiable data to align to regulatory requirements empower agility," Deloitte said.

Deloitte Sustainability Consulting Partnerships, Services: January Milestones

• Partnership: Deloitte and Circle Economy Consulting are partnering to help customers enable sustainable and resilient supply chains, ESG Today reported.
• Platform Launch: Deloitte launched the Geospatial and AI Platform for Scenario Planning and Monitoring. The solution is powered by Google Earth integrations, Google Earth Engine (GEE) and Generative AI technology from Vertex AI. The solution can help customers to "leverage AI and geospatial data to take action on sustainability and climate as they work toward positive economic, social and environmental outcomes," Deloitte said.
• Talent: Deloitte Ireland has named three executives to these posts. (1) Stephen Prendiville is now partner for the Real Assets Advisory, and Sustainable Infrastructure Leader. (2) David Linnane joins the consulting practice as the leader in the Enterprise Technology practice.  And (3) Marie Lucey is now partner, M&A Advisory and Renewable Energy Leader.
• CES 2024: Deloitte participated in the sustainability track at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. The topic of discussion: Not All Air and Water is Created Equal.
• India: Deloitte is launching its Asia Pacific CoE (Centre of Excellence) for Sustainability & Climate in India, Business Today reported.

• November 2023 - IBM Software Partnership: Deloitte and IBM are integrating their sustainability software to "help clients accelerate emissions reductions strategies and make sustainability programs an embedded part of their organization’s core business."
• November 2023 - Acquisition: Deloitte Canada acquired Fleet Challenge Canada to bolster fleet management, decarbonization and electrification strategies across country.
• October 2023 - Deal Pipeline: Deloitte UK provided some clues about its deal pipeline for sustainability services.
• August 2023 - AI Partnership: Partnered with Google Cloud to offer generative AI and geospatial data applications designed to help customers address sustainability, climate risks and net-zero carbon emission strategies.
• April 2023 - ESG Software Partnership: Partnered with ESG software company Workiva.
• March 2023 - Industrial Partnership: Partnered with Circulor to give industrial customers deeper visibility and traceability into their supply chains.
• March 2023 - SaaS Platform Launch: Developed GreenLight Solution, a SaaS-based application for enterprise decarbonization.
• February 2023 - Networking Partnership: Joined the AT&T Connected Climate Initiative (CCI), which promotes connectivity-based solutions in a bid to “reduce greenhouse emissions by 1 gigaton by 2035,” the companies said.
• January 2023 - Customer Contracts: Added a “sustainable delivery” clause – known as Clause Zero – in customer engagement letters and contracts starting in 2023, the global IT consulting firm said. Also of note: Unveiled GreenSpace Tech, an initiative spearheaded by entrepreneurs and climate specialists to scale climate technology solutions, the company said.

Market Forecast: Sustainability Business Services, Green IT Services

Consulting firms worldwide -- including Deloitte rivals such as Accenture, EY, KPMG and PwC -- continue to expand their sustainability business practices and associated software development.

Among the reasons: Global spending on sustainability business services will reach $65 billion in 2027, up from $37.7 billion in 2023, according to an IDC market forecast. That's a 14.9% CAGR (compound annual growth rate) during the forecast period, IDC said.

Moreover, the global green IT services market will reach $33.64 billion by 2031, up from $13.72 billion in 2022, according to Astute Analytical. That's a 10.48% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) during the forecast period, the company said.
