Music Streaming Service Deezer Names Chief Sustainability Officer: 4 Things to Know

Deezer, a provider of music streaming services, has hired Richemont Group veteran Valérie Bernard as chief human resources & sustainability officer.

Here are four things to know about Bernard and her role at Deezer.

1. Business Scope and Scale: Deezer, founded in 2007, is based in Paris, France. The company was one of France's earliest unicorns when it was privately held and valued at more than $1 billion. Deezer has more than 600 employees -- mostly in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil and the United States. The company's technology platform manages more than 90 million tracks across 180 countries.

Deezer reported consolidated revenue of €115.2 million in the first quarter of 2023, up 6.5% compared to the first quarter of 2022. We don't know if the company has issued an annual sustainability or ESG report.

2. Valerie Bernard's Role at Deezer: As chief human resources & sustainability officer, Bernard is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for talent acquisition, employee development, compensation and benefits, performance management, and compliance with employment laws. She is also responsible for developing and implementing long term initiatives that promote the company's environmental, social, and governance goals. This may include developing sustainable sourcing practices, reducing the company's carbon footprint, promoting diversity and inclusion, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, Deezer said.

3. Valerie Bernard's Experience: Bernard previously worked in the luxury Industry at Richemont Group as global talent acquisition and employer branding director. Earlier, she launched a boutique HR consultancy, providing HR support dedicated to entertainment companies. Bernard also held key posts at Canal+ Group and Banijay Group.

4. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement about hiring Bernard, CEO Jeronimo Folgueira said: “I'm thrilled to welcome Valérie to the team and she will be a key player in continuing to build an open, inclusive and vibrant culture at Deezer. Bernard reports directly to Folgueira.
