ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Hires Arvind Bodhankar as Chief Sustainability Officer: 3 Things to Know

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) has hired Arvind Bodhankar as its chief sustainability officer. Bodhankar previously was executive director for ESG & chief risk officer at Dalmia Bharat Group.

Here are three things to know about Arvind Bodhankar's expertise and experience, and the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) sustainability strategy.

1. Business Scope and Scale: AM/NS India is based in Surat, Gujarat. The organization is a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel. AM/NS is striving to reduce its emissions intensity by 20% by 2030 compared to 2021. The overall AM/NS Climate Action Report for 2024 is here.

2. Executive Experience and Expertise: Bodhankar has more than 30 years of experience across such industries as petrochemicals, fertilizers, steel, cement, shipping, glass, food, FMCG, pharma, and automobiles. He also serves as director of the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA). Previously, Bodhankar was executive director and chief risk officer at Dalmia Bharat Group. He also held key sustainability positions at Tata Motors, Cadbury Kraft and Owns Corning.

3. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement about, Wim Van Gerven, director and VP of operations for AM/NS India, said: "Dr. Arvind Bodhankar brings extensive experience and expertise in sustainability and risk management. He will be instrumental in driving sustainability agenda forward in the company as we implement growth strategies to meet the evolving needs of the nation.”

In a statement posted on LinkedIn, Bodhankar added: "I am thrilled to announce that I have joined Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel as their Chief Sustainability Officer. With years of experience in Cement and Steel, I am excited to bring my expertise to this position. Sustainability is a key focus for the industry and I am eager to work with the talented team at AMNS India to drive positive change."
