A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Strategies
1. Sustainable IT Guide: The second edition of the Sustainable IT Playbook for Technology Leaders is now available for pre-order. Key contributors include to Richard R. 2. Research - Enterprise AI and Sustainability Challenges: Fully 68% of global CEOs plan to increase AI investment in the next two years, though 83% acknowledge the environmental cost of rapid AI scaling, according to survey findings from NTT and WSJ Intelligence. 3. Network Infrastructure: Cisco's C9350 switch was built with circular design in mind, according to VP of Hardware Engineering David Stallings. Related: Cisco sustainability strategy and channel partner implications.
4. Energy Partnership - AI Data Centers: RT-One will tap Hitachi Energy to power the largest AI data center platform in Latin America, the two companies said. Clean energy is core to the agreement, the companies said.
5. Data Center Energy Source: ESI Total Fuel Management has expanded its Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO/R99) services for data centers and other mission-critical facilities. HVO/R99 can reduce carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel, ESI asserts.
6. Software Evolution: Sustaira said its sustainability reporting software in 2026 will evolve "far beyond traditional carbon and sustainability reporting to deliver strategic, scalable, and impact-driven solutions." With that goal in mind, the platform will "further expand into new verticals including Healthcare, Telecommunications, and Real Estate, alongside specialized domains such as Water and Waste Stewardship, Risk and Resilience, and Product Carbon Footprint," the company said.
7. CSO - Renewable Energy: Ørsted has named Anders Johannes Enghild as senior director and head of global sustainability. He previously was director and head of climate, nature and community sustainability. Ørsted develops wind, solar and battery storage technologies. The company faces various legal hurdles in the United States, where President Trump has rallied against offshore wind projects. Related: List of sustainability executive moves in January 2026.
8. Partnership - IT Donations and Recycling: CompuCycle and Goodwill Houston have partnered to provide the community with an "easy, trustworthy way to donate and recycle household electronics." Houston residents can drop off laptops, desktops, tablets, monitors, small printers, and other household electronics at participating Goodwill Greater Houston donation centers. Electronics that cannot be resold are sent directly to CompuCycle's certified Houston facility, where materials are responsibly sorted and recycled entirely in-house through a controlled process, the organizations said.
9. Partnership - EV Charger Network: EVgo plans to build at least 150 fast-charging stalls per year through 2035 at Kroger-owned locations in the United States, SeekingAlpha reported.
10. Tesla - Full Self-Driving Service: Tesla will stop selling full self-driving (FSD) after February 14, and will shift FSD to a monthly subscription service, CEO Elon Musk wrote on X. Related: Tesla AI strategy updates, milestones and challenges.
B. Sustainable IT Investments, Funding, Earnings and Business Launches
1. Funding - Enterprise Software Unicorn: Osapiens has raised $100 million in funding, led by Decarbonization Partners (a joint venture between BlackRock and Temasek). Osapiens develops an online software hub that allows customers to manage regulatory compliance, sustainability, and operational efficiency initiatives. Osapiens, now a unicorn (essentially valued at $1 billion or more), previously raised $120 million in Series B funding and $27 million in Series A funding.
2. IPO for Quantum Computing Startup?: Honeywell is exploring plans for a potential Quantinuum IPO. Quantinuum, a full-stack quantum computing provider, raised $600 million at a pre-money equity valuation of $10 billion in September 2025. The company had 630 employees, including 370+ scientists and engineers at the time of that September 2025 equity raise. Honeywell is Quantinuum's majority owner. 3. Financing - AI Data Centers: Patmos Hosting has secured a $100 million clean energy loan to upgrade a data center in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, Data Center Knowledge reported. The lender is PACE Loan Group. Patmos runs an MSP accelerator program that helps MSP partners to scale and grow their businesses.
C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies, Regulations and News
1. COP31: The United Nations' resident coordinator met Türkiye’s chief climate negotiator to discuss cooperation and coordination in preparation for COP31. The key names to know include Babatunde Ahonsi and Fatma Varank. Related: COP31 news, preview and timeline of developments.
2. United States - AI Data Centers and Energy Costs: U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to ensure all big tech companies pay their own way for AI data center power costs. The statement is meant to alleviate consumer concerns about rising power costs. On a related note: Microsoft has vowed to "partner" with local communities across the United States. The effort includes steps to ensure Microsoft power consumption doesn't lift consumer electricity costs.
3. United States - New York Energy Transition Challenges: New York's state energy plan doesn't align with New York's climate law and won't meet net zero targets, the Environmental Defense Fund alleges.
4. United Kingdom - Net Zero Costs: The true cost of the UK’s net zero commitment has been systematically understated, according to the Institute of Economic Affairs. However, the UK energy department DESNZ has rejected those cost claims.
5. European Union - Sustainability Reporting Concerns: A majority of investors and financial institutions believe simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) will negatively impact the quality of sustainability information that they receive from companies, according to an European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) study, ESG Today reported.
