A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Strategies

1. Executive Leadership - Software: Workiva Inc. -- which develops finance, risk and sustainability software -- has hired SentinelOne veteran Barbara Larson as executive VP and chief financial officer (CFO), effective January 20, 2026.

2. IT Services - Certification: Viatel Technology Group has achieved Cisco premier provider status. Viatel also achieved Cisco powered service designations in Meraki Security & SD-WAN and Meraki Access. Viatel earned the customer experience specialization, Cisco select integrator, and environmental sustainability specialization earlier in 2025. 3. Software Platform: KINTO Join has unveiled KINTO Zero, a sustainability platform that spans consultancy services, data management and mobility capabilities.

4. Carbon Reporting Software: Banijay Entertainment has selected TheGreenShot’s GreenPro software to consolidate its global greenhouse gas accounting process.

5. Partnership - IT Distribution and Carbon Reduction: Westcon-Comstor will partner with ecoDriver and Powercor for energy management and sustainability services that reduce the IT distributor's carbon emissions.

6. Partnership - Data Centers: ServerDomes and Global Green Generation are partnering to "design and build a new class of ultra-efficient, data centers engineered for the accelerating demands of AI," the two companies said.

7. Partnership - Carbon Removal: Google has signed a deal with marine CO2 removal firm Ebb Carbon for 3,500 tons of carbon removal credits, Data Center Dynamics reported. Microsoft also has a relationship with Ebb Carbon. Related: Google sustainability strategy and channel partner implications.

8. Partnership - Sustainability and AI Agents: Cority, a provider of EHS and sustainability software, has partnered with Google Cloud to "bring trusted AI agents to the front lines of operational risk management," the two companies said. Key to the effort; integrating Google's Gemini models directly into Cortex AI.

9. Partnership - Maritime Services: MarinaChain, a startup, plans to establish a joint venture in Singapore. The new entity will combine carbon accounting, alternative fuel trading, regulatory support and data infrastructure within a single platform for shipping companies, Smart Martime Network reported.

10, Electronics: The Global Electronics Council (GEC) has launched EPEAT 2.0, an updated ecolabel for sustainable electronics.

11. IT Services and Utilities: The DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Dell Technologies are exploring ways to develop and deploy sustainable utility services, Emirati Times reported.

12. Business Momentum: Schneider Electric, the globle provider of sustainable IT solutions, expects annual organic revenue growth of 7% to 10% from 2026 through 2030, SeekingAlpha reported.

13. Data Centers - Executive Leadership: STACK Infrastructure President Matt VanderZanden is shifting to CEO of STACK Americas. The company's data center focus includes a "commitment to 100% clean energy, carbon reduction, and environmental conservation best practices." 

14. Oracle and OpenAI - Data Center Delays: Oracle has delayed the completion dates for some of the data centers it’s developing for OpenAI to 2028 from 2027, Bloomberg reported. The report intensified concerns about a potential AI market bubble.

15. Elon Musks Reflects on DOGE: Elon Musk said his efforts leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) were only “somewhat successful” and he would not do it over again, SeekingAlpha reported. Instead of championing DOGE, Musk would have maintained a focus on running his core companies, he added. Related: DOGE timeline and reality check.

B. Sustainable IT Investments, Funding, Earnings and Business Launches

1. M&A - Software: Osapiens has acquired risk management solutions startup Lucent AI. The deal addresses such areas as financial risk management, compliance automation, and AI-based decision support. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition surfaced after Osapiens raised $120 million in Series B funding in 2024. Goldman Sachs Alternatives led the round.

2. M&A - Environmental Consulting: Phenna Group acquired SERPRAM, an environmental monitoring organization in Chile. This is Phenna Group's 23rd acquisition of 2025.

3. Investment - Consulting and Software: DCarbon, a Middle East sustainability consulting firm, has invested in SustainGRC and will promote SustainGRC's software to customers. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.

4. IPO Controversy: SK Ecoplant’s plan to go public in 2026 faces backlash from financial investors, who accuse the company of forcing a premature listing to sidestep financial penalties, The Korean Economic Daily reported.

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies, Regulations and News

1. United States - National AI Policy: President Trump signed an executive order aimed at restricting states from crafting their own AI regulations, saying the burgeoning industry is at risk of being stifled by a patchwork of onerous rules while in a battle with Chinese competitors for supremacy, CBS News reported.

2. United States - Zero Emissions Buildings: U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) rescinded its National Definition of a Zero Emissions Building. The action "lowers costs and promotes freedom of choice in the buildings sector by relieving developers, investors, and building owners of indirect pressure to account for federal guidelines that never had the force or effect of law," the DOE asserts.
