Sustainable IT Services News 04 December 2025: Apple CSO to Retire; Free Carbon Accounting Calculator; IBM CEO Questions AI Infrastructure Spending; More

Here is today's sustainable IT services news, research and analysis for channel partners, MSPs, climate accounting professionals, consultants and the chief sustainability officers (CSOs) they serve.

A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Strategies

1. Apple CSO Retires: Apple Chief Sustainability Officer Lisa Jackson plans to retire in January 2026. Alas, it sounds like Apple plans to eliminate the CSO position after Jackson's departure. As a result, Apple's Environment and Social Initiatives teams will report to Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan. Related: Apple sustainability strategy and channel partner implications

2. Former CSO - Career Change: Stanley Black & Decker has hired Schneider Electric veteran Agustin Lopez Diaz as chief global supply chain officer. He previously was Schneider Electric's global chief sustainability officer.

3. Free Carbon Accounting Tool: WattTime and REsurety have launched a Scope 2 accounting calculator. The calculator allows organizations to see how their reported and real-world Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions totals compare under the hourly matching framework recently proposed by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) and an impact accounting approach like the one recommended by its Technical Working Group Consequential Subgroup. It also shows the cost implications for achieving higher emissions reductions under either framework.

4. Circular Business Guide: Multiple companies have partnered to publish has a white paper to help businesses develop Product-as-a-Service and circular economy business models. Key authors and contributors included Sustainable Finance Lab, Circle Economy, Fairphone, PGGM, ING, ABN AMRO, NBA, Allen & Overy and Circularise.

5. Research: The global sustainability and climate change consulting market will reach $30.9 billion in 2033, up from $12.1 billion in 2024, according to Verified Market Reports. That's a 10.9% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Related: List of all sustainability research reports.

6. AI Spending Skeptic: IBM's CEO says AI will unlock trillions of dollars of productivity in the enterprise, but believes many AI infrastructure companies will never get a return on their AI infrastructure investments, OfficeChai reported.

7. Partnership - Data Center CPUs: Fujitsu and Scaleway, a European public cloud provider, are partnering to "support efficient, responsible and secure AI deployment at scale." The effort involves Fujitsu's high-performance, energy-efficient Arm-based FUJITSU-MONAKA CPU platform and development capabilities and Scaleway's cloud infrastructure expertise, the two companies said.

8. Partnership - Data Center Energy Technology: Nexus Data Centers will leverage AirJoule Technologies for a data center project in Hubbard, Texas. The result: Waste Heat from Nexus onsite power generation and data center operations will be used to produce water that will then be sold to Nexus for use in power generation, cooling systems, and other operational requirements, AirJoule said.

9. Partnership - Carbon Capture Technology: Technip Energies will leverage Honeywell's automation and safety technologies for the Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) projects. The projects represent two of the UK’s most significant carbon capture and storage (CCS) developments, Honeywell said.

10. Partnership - Cloud Services: Google, in partnership with Kioxia, plans to more fully leverage hydropower in Japan's Chubu region. This project involves Chubu Electric Power group. Related: Google's sustainability strategy and channel partner implications

11. Partnerships - EV Charging Networks: ChargePoint's Q3 revenue was $105.7 million, up 6% from $99.6 million in the prior year’s same quarter. The EV charger network company credited partnerships -- including a relationship with Eaton -- for the quarterly growth.

12. Nuclear Energy Startup: TerraPower LLC, backed by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, plans to begin construction on a next-generation nuclear reactor in Wyoming by Q2 of 2026 after completing key regulatory steps six months ahead of schedule, Bloomberg reported.

B. Sustainable IT Investments, Funding, Earnings and Business Launches

1. M&A - IT Services: NTT DATA Group has acquired SPRO IT Solutions, an SAP partner focused on agriculture and sustainability in Brazil. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

2. M&A - Energy Resource Management: EnergyHub has acquired Resideo Grid Services. The deal focuses on distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) technologies to help utilities expand Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) to include EVs, batteries, and other DERs. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

3. M&A Expert- Key Hire: Antea Group has hired Chubb Risk Consulting veteran Amy Couch Schultz, as a senior consultant supporting the environmental mergers & acquisitions practice area.

4. Accelerator: Stanbic Business Incubator Limited (SBIL) in 2025 completed Cohort 1 of the Green Businesses and Jobs for the Green Transformation Project, a "flagship initiative empowering women-led enterprises driving environmental sustainability." The project -- launched in partnership with GIZ, the German development cooperation agency, and the ministry of Gender -- runs in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

5. Accelerator: Applications for the DeltaClimeVT Energy 2026 accelerator will be accepted through January 16, 2026.

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies, Regulations and News

1. United States - AI Energy Policy: Hindering renewable energy projects risks slowing the AI boom — and could exacerbate rising electricity prices, a slew of data suggests.

2. United States - Energy Costs: Instead of driving up energy prices, the AI data center boom will ultimately make electricity cheaper because it will spur a boom in electricity production beyond what is needed for the centers, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright asserts, according to The Wall Street Journal.

3. Singapore Data Centers: Singapore has launched the second Data Centre Call for Applications (DC-CFA2), opening a new chapter for the country’s tightly regulated data centre market, according to DC Byte.
