August 12, 2025 by Joe Panettieri

Here is today's sustainable IT services news, research and analysis -- written for channel partners, MSPs, green IT service providers, climate accounting professionals, and the chief sustainability officers (CSOs) they serve.

A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Talent

1. Partner Strategy - Data Center Power Management: Keep an eye on Eaton's plans for recently acquired Resilient Power Systems, a provider of ultra-compact EV charging depots. Eaton sees potential use cases for data centers, "enabling customers to increase power density and revenue generation." Also, keep an eye on recent partnerships with NVIDIASiemens Energy and ChargePoint.

2. Partner Strategy - Renewable Energy: Ormat Technologies is "actively pursuing strategic partnerships to develop new EGS projects," CEO Doron Blachar said during the renewable energy company's August 2025 earnings call. EGS is short for enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). Ormat generated record second quarter revenue and adjusted EBITDA results during Q2 of 2025, the company said.

3. Partner Strategy - Solar and Energy Storage: SunRun sees "some opportunity" to onboard new affiliate partner network members, though the strategy involves "strict underwriting, quality and safety control" requirements, President Paul Dickson said during the company's August earnings call, according to SeekingAlpha. "That being said, there are some fantastic players in that space that we see could be and likely will become good Sunrun partners," he added. And in some cases, the partners become SunRun employees, Dickson noted.

4. Partnership - Low-Carbon Data Center Construction: Amazon and Brimstone announced successful results from tests of Brimstone's lower-carbon Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). The two firms are palling for more comprehensive testing in 2025 and 2026. Related: The Amazon and AWS sustainability strategy.

5. Building Energy Management: Trane Technologies is launching the BrainBox AI Lab, which is "dedicated to advancing technologies designed to support more intelligent, efficient, and sustainable building operations across the industry." Jean-Simon Venne, president of BrainBox AI, will oversee the AI Lab. Trane acquired BrainBox in January 2025.

6. Boardroom - Fuel Cells and Onsite Energy Systems: Former SAP Co-CEO Jim Snabe has joined Bloom Energy's board. Bloom develops a fuel cell system that generates onsite electricity for Fortune 500 companies. Key adopters include data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, large utilities, and other commercial and industrial sectors.

B. Sustainable IT Investments, Funding, Earnings and Business Launches

1. Earnings - EVgo Eyes Autonomous Vehicle Partners: EV charger network provider EVgo announced record financial results for Q2 of 2025. Revenue was $98 million in Q2, up 47% from the corresponding quarter last year. EVgo added 122,000 new customer accounts in the second quarter, with a total of 1.5 million total customer accounts at the end of the quarter. EVgo is striving to achieve adjusted EBITDA breakeven results for the full year, CEO Badar Khan reiterated. Among the key areas of focus: Financing the build-out of more EVgo-owned stall types, including dedicated hubs for autonomous vehicle partners, Khan said during an earnings call.

2. Earnings - Energy Storage and Software: Fluence Energy -- a provider of energy storage and asset optimization software, said revenue was $602.5 million in Q3 of 2025, up 24.7% from Q3 of 2024. Net income was $6.9 million, up from $1.1 million in the corresponding quarter last year. Key partner engagements include AGL -- a major energy and broadband provider in Australia. Still, Fluence's stock is under pressure because President Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" involves various clean energy tariffs. Fluence is backed by Siemens and AES.

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies and News

1. United States - EV Charger Funding: The US Department of Transportation introduced new EV charger funding guidelines to streamline applications and reduce bureaucracy to access the program’s $5 billion in funding for charging infrastructure, which is set to wind down in 2026, SeekingAlpha reported.

2. United States - Data Center Energy Consumption: Amid rising electric bills, states are under pressure to insulate regular household and business ratepayers from the costs of feeding Big Tech's energy-hungry data centers, the Associated Press reported.

3. Italy - Electric Vehicle (EV) Incentives: Italy has approved new subsidies worth almost 600 million euros ($698 million) for the purchase of electric vehicles as sales lag, Reuters reported. The move could help to stir Italy's demand for EV charger networks -- and associated managed services.

4. United Kingdom - Tesla Energy Services: Tesla is preparing to supply electricity to British households and businesses, CNBC reported. The company submitted its request for an electricity license to the British energy regulator Ofgem in July 2025, according to a notice on the watchdog’s website, CNBC added. A Tesla Electric service, launched in Texas in 2022, allows customers to optimize energy consumption and pays them for selling excess energy back to the grid, the report noted.

5. China - AI Chip Sales: US President Donald Trump indicated he might allow Nvidia to sell a downgraded version of its most advanced AI chip to China, SeekingAlpha reported. Still, Nvidia faces significant headwinds in China, losing a key revenue stream due to export restrictions and a new 15% export tax on sales, another SeekingAlpha report noted. Meanwhile, China urged local companies to avoid using Nvidia's H20 processors, Bloomberg reported.

6. COP30 Conference - Partnership: The Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) and China's tech giant Tencent will launch a platform at the conference to "better connect climate-related needs with innovative company solutions," ECNS.cn reported. Related: See all COP30 updates here.
