1. AI and Sustainability Scorecard: Will AI help or hurt sustainability efforts? Salesforce, the cloud service provider and CRM software giant, offers this AI Sustainability Outlook.
2. Data Center Power Strategy: Equinix announced plans to work with multiple "alternative energy" providers. Much of the news involved nuclear power. The announcement did not mention solar, wind or hydro power. However, Equinix remains committed to "sourcing 100% clean and renewable energy across its global portfolio by 2030 and has already achieved 96% renewable energy coverage globally, with 250 sites operating with 100% renewable energy coverage in 2024," the company said.
3. Apple Critics: In a Trellis editorial, two sustainability experts called on Apple to extend beyond its internal climate efforts and "drive change at a societal level." Among their key points: "By using power, lobbying force, political influence and more, the company could change the corporate climate game," co-authors Auden Schendler and Bill Weihl asserted. B. Sustainable IT Investments, Funding, Earnings and Business Launches
1. Funding - Carbon Accounting Software: Tanso has raised $12 million in Series A funding. The company develops sustainability software for midsize manufacturing companies. henQ and Fortino Capital led the round, with participation from existing investors Capnamic and UVC Partners. Tanso, founded in 2021, is based in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. The company has 57 employees listed on LinkedIn as of August 2025.
2. Funding - Battery Energy Storage Systems: UK battery developer Harmony Energy Ltd. is seeking to raise around US$400 million as it pushes into new markets in Europe, where surging wind and solar are straining grids and boosting demand for renewable energy storage, Bloomberg reported.
3. Financing - Energy Infrastructure: Nuveen has raised $1.3 billion to fund opportunities involving energy and power infrastructure. Nuveen plans to offer "private infrastructure credit solutions to companies in support of the growing demand for energy and power arising from digitalization, electrification and the reindustrialization of North America, Europe and other OECD countries." OECD is short for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development -- a a global policy forum that works with over 100 countries.
