A. Sustainable Technology, Talent, Partnerships and Green IT Alliances
1. COP28 - Sustainable IT Services: Atos will host a sustainability conference on December 6 during COP28. Ironically, Atos sold its climate consulting business to Schneider Electric in July 2023, but Atos continues to increasingly focus on green IT managed services.
2. AI and Hardware: Intel’s next-generation AI accelerators will be supported by Vertiv liquid-cooled data center infrastructure solutions to "help organizations accelerate AI adoption while achieving sustainability goals," the two companies said.
3. Research - Smart Buildings: With buildings representing some 40% of global emissions, decarbonizing the built environment is one of the fastest paths to meeting net zero targets globally, and essential for many businesses with 2030 carbon reduction goals, Johnson Controls and Forrester Consulting research asserts.
4. Research - Sustainability Plan: Roughly 53% of companies have an emissions plan in place. Roughly 26% of companies that lack a plan still expect to develop one. And 20% of companies have no plans to develop such a strategy, according to research from ACCA, IFAC and PwC.
5. Financial Services: Banks will need to account for a third of the emissions linked to their capital markets deals when they report their carbon footprint, after an industry-led standard setter (called Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials, or PCAF) launched a long-awaited methodology, Reuters reported.
B. Sustainability M&A, Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Up for Sale?: EV charging company Charge Enterprises may be up for sale.
2. Funding - EV Charging: BP and Iberdrola SA of Spain created a joint venture that plans to invest €1 billion in new, ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, Bloomberg reported.
3. Funding - COP28: The United Arab Emirates plans to start a $30 billion climate fund with BlackRock, Brookfield Asset Management and TPG, Bloomberg reported.
4. More Funding - COP28: Nearly 200 nations agreed on how to run a fund to help vulnerable countries deal with more extreme weather, and rich nations pledged at least $260 million to start the program, marking a breakthrough as global climate negotiations opened in Dubai, Bloomberg reported.
5. M&A - Solar Energy: BP is acquiring full ownership of Lightsource bp, a developer and operator of utility-scale solar and battery storage assets.
