Renewable Energy Firm OX2 Names Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer: 4 Things to Know

April 9, 2025 by Joe Panettieri

OX2 has promoted Rebecca Karlsson from head of sustainability to chief communications and sustainability officer, the renewable energy provider said.

Karlsson succeeds Katarina Grönwall, who exited the business to join Ratos in a similar role.

Here are four things to know about OX2's business and sustainability strategy, and Karlsson's executive experience.

1. Business Scope and Scale: OX2, founded in 2004, is based in Stockholm, Sweden. The company develops, constructs, and manages renewable energy solutions -- including onshore wind, offshore wind, solar, and energy storage. Private equity firm EQT acquired OX2 for $1.5 billion in 2024.

2. Sustainability Strategy: The OX2 sustainability strategy includes:

  • A code of conduct for the business and for suppliers;
  • policies for sustainability; the environment; health and safety; diversity equity and inclusion (DEI); anti-corruption and whistleblowing; information and insiders; taxes and local engagement.

OX2's 2023 sustainability report outlined various country-by-country net zero goals, but we don't know if the company has set its own net zero goals.

3. Executive Leadership: Rebecca Karlsson shifts to chief communications and sustainability officer, from her previous title of head of sustainability (2021 to March 2025). Earlier, she held key communications, marketing and/or sustainability positions at Handicare Group, Eaton Power Quality, Payzone Nordic and ABB Structured Finance.

4. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement about her new role, Karlsson said: "I look forward to continuing to contribute to OX2’s mission to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and together with colleagues and partners develop sustainable projects that add long-term value."

Paul Stormoen, CEO, OX2

Added OX2 CEO Paul Stormoen: "I look forward to working with Rebecca in her new role. She knows the company, is a great leader and an appreciated colleague. I also want to thank Katarina Grönwall for all the hard work the last years and I wish her all the best in her next chapter."

Chief Sustainability Officers: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
