February 12, 2025 by Joe Panettieri
Intel veteran Jen Huffstetler has joined PC and printer giant HP Inc. as chief sustainability officer, as well as senior VP of global product compliance and sustainable impact.
Huffstetler joined HP in November 2024, but her career move initially flew under the IT media's radar (special thanks to sources who alerted us).
Here are six things to know about HP's sustainability strategy, and Huffstetler's executive experience.
1. Business Scope and Scale: HP, founded as Hewlett-Packard in 1939, is based in Palo Alto, California. Annual revenue was $53.6 billion in fiscal year 2024, down slightly from $53.7 billion in fiscal year 2023. HP had roughly 58,000 employees in 2024, according to Stock Analysis.
HP is not to be confused with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). The HP-HPE company breakup occurred in November 2015. HP focuses on PCs, printers and 3D printers. HPE focuses on data center-type solutions, including servers, network switches, storage and as-a-service options for enterprises.
3. Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO): New CSO Jen Huffstetler arrived in November 2024, according to her LinkedIn profile. She essentially succeeded James McCall, former senor VP and chief sustainability officer. McCall departed the PC maker in February 2024, according to his LinkedIn profile.
4. Executive Experience: Jen Huffstetler has extensive executive and sustainability experience. At Intel, she was chief product sustainability officer, as well as VP and GM of the future platform strategy (2022-2024). Earlier, she was VP and GP of Intel's data center platform strategy (2019-2022), according to LinkedIn. During an earlier tour of duty at Intel (1998-2019), she rose from manager-level posts to director- and VP-level positions. Her college education included MIT and Babson Graduate School.
5. Key Peers: Multiple product groups and departments have sustainability mandates. Key executives to know include:
Grant Hoffman, senior VP and global head of operations and portfolio, HP Solutions;
Key Executives (clockwise): Mary Beth Walker, Claudia Contreras-Gomez, Grant Hoffman & Marcos Razon
6. Next Moves: Huffstetler is set to keynote the North American Sustainability and Responsibility Summit 2025 (March 12-14, Denver, Colorado). We'll be listening for updates that further explain Huffstetler's views on sustainability, and next potential moves for channel partners.
Chief Sustainability Officers: Why Technology Partners Should Care
By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.
The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
