Hitachi Energy, Google Cloud Partnership Targets Sustainability, Renewable Energy Transitions

Hitachi Energy and Google Cloud are partnering to develop multiple cloud software products and services to help customers accelerate the global energy transition toward green and renewable sources.
Among the first developments with Google: Hitachi Energy’s Velocity Suite Power Prices is now available on the Google Cloud Marketplace. The software allows customers to make "better, faster decisions about energy projects and investments in North America," the two companies said. Target customers include:
Global developers;
operators of renewable generation and battery energy storage systems (BESS); and
traditional generators, traders, and energy market participants.
Longer term, the two companies will align Hitachi Energy’s Energy Portfolio Management (EPM) with Google Cloud’s data analytics capabilities, artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) services to "develop and deploy new, innovative solutions for electric utilities and renewable energy producers" the two companies said.

In a prepared statement about the relationship, Massimo Danieli, managing director for grid automation at Hitachi Energy, said: “Data and analytics are at the center of the energy transition and play a critical role in the evolving grid. Delivering Velocity Suite Power Prices through our partnership with Google Cloud helps global customers accelerate decision making, optimize investments, and digitally transform their own businesses.”

Hitachi Energy, based in Switzerland, has roughly 40,000 employees across 90 countries. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. The subsidiary, which generates about $10 billion in annual revenue, serves customers in the utility, industry and infrastructure sectors. Sister companies include Hitachi Vantara, which is helping customers to develop sustainable data centers.
Key customer wins include Pattern Energy Group LP -- which selected Quanta Services and Hitachi Energy in early 2023 to build its SunZia Transmission and Wind project. The project will enable access to over 3,500 MW of New Mexico wind power, providing "clean, reliable, and affordable electricity across Western states," Pattern Energy said.
Cloud, Energy and Sustainability Conferences
Meanwhile, More sustainability news is expected at the Google Cloud Next 2023 conference. The conference agenda includes at least 20 sessions that will touch on sustainability strategies for customers and partners.
Hitachi Energy 2024 User Conference: Longer term, keep an eye on the Hitachi Energy User Conference in 2024. That event, known as the Enterprise Software Solutions User Conference: Americas, will feature renewable energy, sustainability, energy trading and risk management strategies for attendees, the company said.
