Creative Agency Hyperquake Hires Thomas Federl as Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO): 3 Things to Know

August 7, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Creative agency Hyperquake has hired Thomas Federl as chief sustainability officer. Here are three things to know about Federl's experience and Hyperquake's sustainability strategy.

1. Business Scope and Scale: Hyperquake, founded in 1986, is based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company also has offices in Salt Lake City, Utah and Brooklyn, New York. Hyperquake specializes in creative strategy, brand experiences and marketing services. The company bow offers sustainability-focused development services to "optimize its clients' present and future business operations."

Hyperquake has 63 employees listed on LinkedIn, though we don't know actual headcount figures at the company. Moreover, we don't know if Hyperquake has announced carbon reduction goals or a net-zero target year.

2. Executive Background: Federl previously was VP of marketing, communications and ESG at Calavo Growers, and VP of marketing and communications at Castellini Group. He has also held key posts at Gamble Home Services, Dolphin Architects and Builders, and Chiquita. In some of those posts. Federl engaged Hyperquake to help conceive and develop various ESG-related campaigns.

3. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement, Federl said: "In my roles as head of communications and marketing for several global companies, Hyperquake was one of many agencies I contracted to help orchestrate and maximize all the extremely complex business matters related to sustainability. Simply put, in every engagement, Hyperquake over-delivered on expectations.

Federl added: "Given Hyperquake's sustained growth – and its ever-expanding expertise and success building ambitious brands and experiences – this new offering is our next logical chapter. We are taking the term 'sustainability' quite literally, as in, 'How healthy is the business in all aspects of its operations to provide the best conditions for longevity?' In that context, defining a company's take on sustainability is a mission-critical first step in achieving profitability, and in building long-term success. We are ready to help our clients improve their business metrics, increase their relevance, and where it makes sense, secure vital new roles in a world that is changing faster than ever."

Concluded Hyperquake CEO Colin Crotty: "In partnership with our sibling management consultancy Several Thousand Alliance (STA), Hyperquake is uniquely positioned in its ability to support companies and brands in building bespoke sustainability strategies that address foundational business imperatives as well as ESG and climate impact. Starting now, Thomas and our Sustainability team members are here to help future-proof our clients' businesses. Identifying and providing solutions to any and all people, product and process challenges, our goal is to get our clients' businesses running on all cylinders, so that together, we can make the world a better place."

Chief Sustainability Officers: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
