Sean James, distinguished engineer of energy systems, Nvidia
November - Data Center Hire: Microsoft veteran Sean James has joined Nvidia as a distinguished engineer of energy systems. He previously was senior director of energy and data center research at Microsoft. His career focus seeks to "contribute significantly to the global dialogue on sustainable computing and energy use in the technology sector," according to James' LinkedIn account. November - AI Chip Sales: Sales of Nvidia's Blackwell chips are "off the charts," and Nvidia GPUs in the cloud are sold out, CEO Jensen Huang told Bloomberg. He also pointing to a strong outlook for Nvidia's new Vera Rubin platform. (Source: Bloomberg)
Saudi Arabia - xAI Data Center: Elon Musk announced a massive new xAI data center project in Saudi Arabia as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman continues his formal visit to the United States. In partnership with Saudi Arabia’s HUMAIN AI company, Musk said the 500-megawatt data center for xAI would be powered by Nvidia’s chips. (Source: NBC News)
November - Funding AI: NVIDIA and Microsoft plan to invest up to $10 billion and up to $5 billion, respectively, in Anthropic. On the flip side, Anthropic has committed to purchase $30 billion in Azure compute capacity.
November - Supercomputer Partnership:Dell Technologies, The University of Texas at Austin, and NVIDIA are building a super computer for scientific research in such areas as national security, healthcare and climate science. The supercomputer, called Horizon, will become operational in 2026, the organizations said.
October - Smart City Partnership: The town of Vail, Colorado has tapped HP Enterprise, Nvidia and several IT service providers for AI-based cloud services and associated infrastructure and that will "make the city smarter, safer and more sustainable," Vail officials said. The effort includes data center services powered by renewable energy.
October - AI Chip Energy Consumption: NVIDIA's AI server platform is experiencing a significant increase in power requirements with each generation, and the transition from Ampere to Kyber marks a 100-fold increase in energy consumption, according to analyst Ray Wang, as reported by WCCF TECH INC.
October - AI Data Center Partnership: Nvidia is partnering with startup Firmus Technologies Ltd. to create a massive fleet of renewable energy-powered AI data centers across Australia, Bloomberg reported. The project could involve a total investment of A$73.3 billion by 2028, the report added. Firmus raised A$330 million in September 2025, with participation from Nvidia.
October - AI Data Center Partnership:Nscale is working with Microsoft and Dell Technologies to expand Nvidia GPU deployments across Europe and the United States. Nscale, an AI data center provider that blends sustainability and managed services, raised $1.1 billion in Series B funding in September 2025. Dell and Nvidia participated in the round, among others.
October - Startup Investment: Phaidra has raised more than $50 million in Series B funding led by Collaborative Fund. Nvidia participated in the round. Phaidra develops AI software agents that help to improve infrastructure efficiency, reliability and sustainability.
September - Energy and AI Data Centers: The AI boom requires an “all-of-the-above approach” to power and energy, Nvidia Head of Sustainability Josh Parker said during The Next 3 Billion summit, according to Semafor. Near-term, the answer often is natural gas -- but cleaner power sources will eventually stabilize energy supply and demand, Parker predicted, the report said.
August - AI Chips and Energy Efficiency: Nvidia executives emphasized energy efficiency throughout the AI chip company's quarter earnings call in August. According to Nvidia CFO Colette M. Kress: "Compared to the previous Hopper generation, GB300 NVL72 AI factories promise a 10x improvement in token per watt energy efficiency, which translates to revenues as data centers are power limited." Still, the company did not mention sustainability or net-zero efforts during the earnings call.
April 21 - Japan Energy Production: Jensen Huang met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to push for more electricity generation to meet AI Needs, Bloomberg reported.
April 10 - AI Startup Disrupts Nvidia?: Ziroh Labs, an AI startup operating in India, collaborated with researchers at the country’s premier technology school to design an affordable system that it says can run large AI models without requiring advanced computing chips from the likes of Nvidia, according to Bloomberg.
March 25 - China Energy Regulations: China's new energy consumption and environmental rules could pressure and perhaps even block certain Nvidia chip sales in China, The Financial Times reported.
March 18 - New Chips: Nvidia gave glimpses of its upcoming AI chips, Blackwell Ultra, due out later in 2025, as well as the next-generation Vera Rubin chips, due out in 2026, The Information reported. Nvidia said Rubin would have more than double the computing power of Blackwell chips, the report added.
March 17-21 Nvidia GTC: This global technology conference focuses on AI solutions for developers. Huang is expected to unveil Blackwell Ultra -- a "souped-up version" of Nvidia's existing AI chip, Yahoo Finance reported. Also, listen for Huang to discuss Vera Rubin -- which will succeed the company's Grace Blackwell superchip, the report said.
February 28 - AI Chip Smuggling: Singapore police have charged three people with fraud in a case that apparently involves Nvidia chip sales that may have ultimately landed in China, Reuters reported. The Trump administration is evaluating how to potentially evolve AI chip export policies in order to limit China's AI advancements. Nvidia, meanwhile, is lobbying for fewer export restrictions.
February 27 - NVIDIA Earnings: Nvidia's revenue was $39.3 billion in Q3 of 2025, up 78% from Q3 of 2024. During the associated earnings call, the AI chipmaker did not mention sustainability or energy efficiency strategies for its ever-expanding product footprint.
January 15 - Conference Teaser:Nvidia's annual GTC event will include Quantum Day -- a first-ever for the conference. The conference runs March 17-21 in San Jose, California.
January 6 - AI Personal Computer: Nvidia has unveiled a desktop PC that has "AI supercomputer" capabilities. Known as Project Digits, the PC features the NVIDIA GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip in a "power efficient, compact form factor," the company said. The first Project Digits PCs will ship in May 2025 for about $3,000, TechCrunch reported.

December 30 - M&A - AI Chips and Software: Nvidia has completed the Run:AI acquisition. Nvidia plans to open source Run:AI's software, which allows customers to improve the efficiency and utilization of GPU systems. Nvidia announced the $700 million acquisition in April 2024.
November 20 - AI Chips and Gigawatt Data Centers: Blackwell production is in full steam, and Nvidia will deliver this quarter more Blackwells than previously estimated, CEO Jensen Huang said during the company's earnings call. Moreover, Nvidia's data center technology offers the highest performance per watt, which "translates directly into the highest revenues for our partners," Huang asserted.
November 20 - Financial Results: Nvidia's revenue was $35.1 billion in Q3 of fiscal 2025, up 94% from Q3 of fiscal 2024. Despite the strong growth, Nvidia's stock fell slightly because Wall Street expectations are so lofty.
November 20 - COP29 Panel - AI and Energy Efficiency: During a panel discussion, executives from Deloitte, Crusoe Energy Systems, EON, the International Energy Agency (IEA) and NVIDIA sat down for a conversation about the energy efficiency of AI.
November 19 - AI and Quantum Processors: Nvidia and Google are partnering to design quantum artificial intelligence processors.
November 18 - AI Chips Overheating?: Nvidia’s new Blackwell AI chips apparently are overheating some servers, The Information reported. We'll listen for a potential Nvidia response during the company's November 20 earnings call.
October 18 - Potential M&A - Nuclear Power and Data Centers:Ubitus K.K, a cloud services company backed by Nvidia, is looking to acquire land to build a data center in Kyoto, Shimane, or a prefecture in Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, owing to the availability of nuclear power in the region, Bloomberg reported and SeekingAlpha recapped.
October 16 - Google and Nvidia Blackwell Chips: Google Cloud is testing servers running on Nvidia's Blackwell line. The Google Cloud-Blackwell statement arrives roughly one week after Microsoft Azure claimed to be the first cloud running Blackwell on production systems.
October 11 - "Reasoning AI" Trend?: The emergence of "reasoning AI" will require cheaper computing, Nvidia's CEO predicted.
October 4 - AI and Energy Efficiency: While some data center providers are struggling to find more energy to run AI applications, Nvidia Senior Director Joshua Parker says AI and accelerated computing are "driving energy efficiency and offering innovative solutions to global sustainability challenges," according to a podcast interview.
October 3 - Blackwell Chip Production: Next-generation Blackwell chips are in production, and customer demand is "insane" for the AI-optimized processors, CEO Jensen Huang told CNBC.
October 3 - Data Center Partnership: An NTT data center in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, will become a "Green Nexcenter” that leverages liquid-cooling systems and renewable energy, The Fast Mode reported. The center has also been certified under the NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center program, the report said.
October 3 - IT Consulting Partnership: Accenture and Nvidia have expanded their partnership, and Accenture formed an NVIDIA Business Group. The IT consulting firm plans to train roughly 30,000 employees on Nvidia's technology. The strategy involves Accenture AI Refinery, which "uses the full NVIDIA AI stack—including NVIDIA AI Foundry, NVIDIA AI Enterprise and NVIDIA Omniverse—to advance areas such as process reinvention, AI-powered simulation and sovereign AI," the IT consulting firm said. Accenture AI Refinery will be available on all public and private cloud platforms and will integrate with other Accenture Business Groups to accelerate AI across the SaaS and Cloud AI ecosystem.
September 19 - AI Solutions Partnership: G42 and Nvidia are partnering to "develop AI solutions aimed at boosting weather forecasting accuracy globally and will set up an operational base and climate tech lab in Abu Dhabi," Reuters reported.
September 9 - Liquid Cooling Technology:Giga Computing, a subsidiary of GIGABYTE, says its GIGABYTE G593 series servers support direct liquid cooling (DLC) technology to "advance green data centers using NVIDIA HGX H200 GPU."
September 4 - Alleged Antitrust Concerns: The U.S. Justice Department sent subpoenas to Nvidia, and other companies as it seeks evidence that the chipmaker violated antitrust laws, an escalation of its investigation into the dominant provider of AI processors, Bloomberg reported.
August 28 - Blackwell Chip Shipments: The company's next-generation AI GPU, known as Blackwell, will "ship several billion dollars" in Q4 of 2024 while ramping even higher in 2025, CEO Jensen Huang told Wall Street analysts during an earnings call on August 28, 2024.
August 9 - More on AI Chip Delay: Partner Super Micro Computer does not expect to see any meaningful volume of Nvidia's Blackwell GPUs until the quarter ending in March 2025, Seeking Alpha reported. Super Micro may see a few Blackwell GPUs in the quarter ended December 2024, but the real volume is more likely the March 2024 quarter, the report said.
August 5 - AI Chip Delay:Nvidia apparently will delay the delivery of its next-generation AI chips -- known as Blackwell. Nvidia apparently needs to correct Blackwell design flaws before shipping the new AI chips, Bloomberg Radio reported.
October 22: The company described how green computing, also called sustainable computing, aims to "maximize energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact in the ways computer chips, systems and software are designed and used."
