A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Strategies

1. Generative AI - Return on Investment (ROI)?: Roughly 95% of organizations are getting zero return from generative AI, an MIT study found.

2. Google - AI Study Questioned: Google's AI energy consumption sustainability study faces some pushback because it doesn't include indirect water usage -- that is, the water consumed at power plants that supply electricity to data centers, TechStory reported. 3. Partnership - Data Center Power Solutions: Caterpillar and Hunt Energy Company are partnering to deliver power solutions and associated managed services for data centers, the two companies said.

4. Executive Roles: Westpac has named Michael Chen as its deputy chief sustainability officer. He previously was acting chief sustainability officer at Westpac.

5. Lawsuit - Authors vs. Anthropic: Multiple authors' groups urged a court to reject Anthropic's effort to delay a copyright trial against the AI company, Bloomberg reported. Related: See all generative AI lawsuit updates.

1. COP30 - Conference Housing Debate: Brazil's government rejected the idea of subsidizing delegates' hotel fares at the conference, after what they described as a tense meeting with U.N. officials, Reuters reported. Related: See all COP30 news updates.

2. United States - Wind Policy: Orsted shares plummeted after the U.S. government issued a stop-work order on a key offshore wind project off the Rhode Island coast, the latest setback for the Danish energy group amid President Trump’s opposition to wind power, The Wall Street Journal reported.

3. Taiwan - Nuclear Power Debate: A referendum to restart a Taiwan nuclear plant failed due to poor voter turnout, dealing a blow to attempts by some groups to revive atomic power after the government shut all reactors, Bloomberg reported.

4. Malaysia - Data Center Energy Partnership: Infrastructure firm Gamuda and clean energy company Gentari Sdn. will jointly develop approximately 1.5 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity as they seek to meet power demand for hyperscale data centers in Malaysia, Bloomberg reported.
