Sustainable IT Services News 09 February 2026: Dcycle Buys Carbon Accounting Company; Tesla AI Training Center; New York Data Center Hiatus?

Here is today's sustainable IT services news, research and analysis for channel partners, MSPs, climate accounting professionals, consultants and the chief sustainability officers (CSOs) they serve.

A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Strategies

1. SMB Managed Services: KindLink has ESG as a Service for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The service targets UK and international organizations with up to 500 employees as they navigate the growing complexity of Environmental, Social and Governance compliance, reporting and strategy, KindLink said. KindLink also has a partner program.

2. IT Services and Consulting: EY has developed a Sustainable Operating Blueprint -- a framework that helps organizations "build roadmaps to thrive in a sustainable future by embedding ambition into enterprise strategy," the company said.

3. Blockchain: dClimate has launched Tyche, a platform to bring insurance risk on-chain, the company said. dClimate is a decentralized, blockchain-based marketplace for climate data, forecasts, and models. Early investors include Mark Cuban.

4. Power Purchase Agreement (PPA): Google data centers in Texas will leverage solar energy from TotalEnergies as part of a 15-year agreement. Also, Google has signed a PPA with German power company EnB., Data Center Dynamics reported. The deal sources energy from the He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, the report said. 5. Layoffs - Software: Change by Degrees, an engagement platform that aligns employees with sustainability targets, has ceased operations because "policy changes at European level and political headwinds internationally have pushed sustainability down the agenda," the company said on its website. Co-founder Tara Shine shared lessons learned in a column.

6. Layoffs - AdTech: Scope3 has cut engineering and sales staff just five months after implementing commercial team reductions in August 2025, PPC Land reported. The sustainability-focused adtech company declined to specify how many employees lost positions in the February 2026 layoffs. Related: List of sustainability industry layoffs.

7. Tesla Solar Business Expansion: Tesla is evaluating New York, Arizona and Idaho for locations to potentially expand solar cell manufacturing activity, Bloomberg reported. Tesla also is accelerating its solar team hiring, according to Linkedin posts by Seth Winger, Tesla senior manager for solar products engineering.

8. Tesla AI: Tesla has launched an AI training center in China to improve its self-driving software amid increased competition in the country’s EV market, Tech In Asia reported. Related: Tesla AI strategy milestones and challenges.

9. Executive Promotion: Menzies Aviation has promoted Group Head of Legal John Frame to succeed John Geddes as chief legal & sustainability officer. Geddes is expected to retire in November 2026. Related: List of sustainability executive moves in February 2026.

B. Sustainable IT Investments, Funding, Earnings and Business Launches

1. M&A - Carbon Accounting Software: Dcycle, a sustainability data management platform developer in Madrid, Spain, has acquired ESG-X of Düsseldorf, Germany. ESG-X specializes in AI-enabled sustainability reporting, TechEU reported. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. 2. Private Equity and Renewable Energy Funding: KKR will invest up to $603 million into HMC’s Energy Transition Platform. Key focus areas include the development of new battery storage and wind projects in Australia.

3. Incubator: BAE Systems has introduced Launchpad, a technology incubator program to "help cutting-edge innovations reach their full commercial potential." Related: List of 100+ sustainability accelerators and incubators

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies, Regulations and News

1. United States - Carbon Policy: The U.S. Department of Energy has been directed to study the carbon intensity of industrial products exported to the European Union, such as steel, fertilizer, and aluminum. Some Republicans support the move because they believe U.S. manufacturers can gain a competitive advantage over foreign rivals.

2. United States - New York Data Center Legislation: Pending legislation in New York would freeze state and local approvals for data centers for three years, Politico reported. The legislation, still pending approval, surfaces amid concerns about data center energy consumption, consumer power costs, and associated environmental impact concerns.

3. United States - Quantum Research: The Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Laboratory has established a new center that aims to unify and expand its quantum research capabilities across national security, quantum computer science, quantum algorithms and workforce development, ExecutiveGov reported.

4. European Union - Policy Changes: The European Union is set to relax Emissions Trading System rules for thousands of companies, recalibrating the world’s most rigorous carbon market under pressure from industry and governments, Bloomberg reported.
