EV Charging: ChargePoint Rolls Out Tesla NACS Connector Support

ChargePoint is rolling out Tesla NACS connector support for its AC and DC charging solutions, with much of the lineup to be delivered now through November 2023, ChargePoint said.

Moreover, cable conversion kits for existing DC fast chargers will be delivered to customers in November 2023, "offering Tesla drivers a public fast charging alternative for the first time," ChargePoint asserted.

The updates arrive at a key time. Among the variables to note:

• Numerous electric vehicle (EV) companies have vowed to support Tesla's NACS standard.
• ChargePoint announced 10% staff layoffs in September 2023 amid weaker-than-expected quarterly revenue guidance for its own EV charging station network.
• The staff cuts surfaced after ChargePoint announce plans to boost EV charging station reliability to "nearly 100%" through various network, analytics and AI (artificial intelligence) updates.

Meanwhile, Tesla continues to diversify beyond electric vehicles and the associated Tesla Supercharger network. Additional efforts include the Tesla energy storage and solar businesses, and AI developments involving the Dojo supercomputer and Optimus humanoid robots.

Amid pricing pressures and weaker-than-expected unit sales, Tesla's Q3 2023 financial results fell short of Wall Street's expectations.
