Sustainable IT and Climate Tech News 21 February 2025: Datacentrix and HP Partnership; Cisco Investments and More

Here is today’s sustainable IT services and climate tech news, research and analysis -- written for technology partners, green IT service providers, CIOs, chief sustainability officers (CSOs) and climate accounting professionals.

A. Sustainable IT, Talent, Partnerships and Green Tech Alliances

1. Channel Partnership Continues: Datacentrix has been re-awarded HP’s Amplify Impact Partner status. The recognition highlights Datacentrix’s commitment to sustainability, diversity and social responsibility, the company said.

2. Partnership - Energy Infrastructure and Cloud Services: Tata Power is partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate India's transition to a "greener, smarter, and more consumer-centric energy ecosystem," the companies said.

3. Google - Built Environment: Google's new office hub in India, known as Ananta, integrates several environmentally responsible features, APAC News Network reported. The campus recycles 100% of its wastewater, has an advanced rainwater harvesting system, and houses one of India’s largest smart glass installations to optimize energy consumption, the report said.

4. Climate Risk Analysis Tool: Bloomberg has launched MARS Climate, a software tool that helps portfolio and risk managers to "assess their exposure to the financial impacts of climate change," the company said.

5. Executive Leadership - Data Center Developer:  STACK Infrastructure has promoted Matt VanderZanden to president. VanderZanden now oversees oversee Commercial, Financial, Development, Design & Construction, Facility Management, and Legal operations for STACK Americas.

6. Executive Leadership - Climate Consultancy: South Pole, a carbon asset developer and climate consultancy, has hired McKinsey veteran Dara Olufon as co-head of its Global Climate Advisory arm, effective March 2025.

7. Executive Leadership - Data Center Technology: ZutaCore, a developer of waterless direct liquid cooling technology, has hired Equinix veteran My D. Truong as chief technology officer (CTO), and WIKA Group veteran Andreas Keiger as chief revenue officer (CRO). ZutaCore's core focus involves meeting the "unprecedented energy and performance requirements of AI workloads," the company said.

B. Sustainability M&A, Climate Tech Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches

1. M&A - Environmental Risk Software: EarthDaily Analytics, which specializes in Earth Observation (EO) data and analytics, has acquired SkyForest, a developer of wildfire risk assessment and forestry analytics. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

2. M&A - IT Asset Disposition (ITAD): Sage Sustainable Electronics, backed by Closed Loop Partners has acquired Cascade Asset Management. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

3. IT and Climate Investments: Cisco Investments is seeking to "invest in organizations that align with Cisco’s own climate goals and those of its customers," according to a lengthy article from the networking company.

4. Investment - Real Estate Decarbonization: KKR has invested in EGC, an energy service provider based in Düsseldorf, Germany. The deal also involves EGC's engineering service provider -- known as ITG is also part of the group. ECG specializes in energy and building technology systems; financing, owning and operating central heating units and electricity supply networks; and overall energy supply strategies. The associated ITG team assists customers with planning of energy and building technology systems and facilities. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. EGC, backed by KKR, is now seeking to make acquisitions.

5. Climate Financing: The Green Climate Fund (GCF), the world's largest fund helping developing countries deal with the impacts of climate change, has approved $686.8 million in financing, Reuters reported. The Seoul-based group said the investment would help draw in other financing partners and ultimately mobilize around $1.5 billion for 11 projects across 42 countries, providing support to 115 million people, the report said.

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies and News

1. New Zealand - Caron Capture Strategy: New Zealand will incentivize companies to capture and store carbon dioxide underground by allowing them to offset other greenhouse gas emissions, Bloomberg reported, helping the nation’s push toward becoming a net-zero economy by 2050.
