2. Partnership - Google Cloud Services: Cropin, which develops an AI platforms for food and agriculture, has achieved the Google Cloud Ready – Sustainability Designation within the Google Cloud Partner Advantage Program.
3. Partnership - IT Services: Provance and HSO are partnering to assist customers with IT service and asset management solutions for Microsoft customers, the two companies said.
4. Sustainable AI Manifesto: Microsoft has published a sustainable AI manifesto -- leveraging thousands of words to describe how AI can improve sustainability.
5. Milestone - Battery Management System (BMS): Nuvation Energy, a provider of battery management systems (BMS), has surpassed 1 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of energy storage deployments globally.
6. Nuclear Mandate: "New nuclear technology is a global decarbonization solution and a commercial shipping disruptor. There is no net zero by 2050 without nuclear," according to ABS Chairman and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki.
7. Recycling Exit: Kuusakoski Oy of Finland is closing its U.S. operations in the face of prolonged profitability challenges, Recycling Today reported. The company's expertise includes IT reuse strategies.
B. Sustainability M&A, Climate Tech Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Venture Capital: Hitachi has launched a $400 million fund. Target investments include disruptive startups that focus on data centers, distributed energy systems, future of work and industrial AI, as well as startups in new frontiers including bio, quantum, nuclear fusion, life science, space and adjacent technologies, the company said.
2. xAI Funding Goal: xAI, the generative AI startup led by Elon Musk, is seeking to raise $10 billion in new funding, Bloomberg reported. The funding would value xAI at $75 billion, the report said.
3. Investment - Renewable Energy: Mitsubishi Electric has acquired a stake in HD Renewable Energy, a developer and operator of solar power and battery storage systems. The companies plan to establish a jointed venture in Japan in April 2025. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
4. M&A - Smart Buildings: Keep an eye on Sustainable Smart Technologies (formerly IoT Horizon), a smart building technology company based in Rawtenstall, Lancashire. Sustainable Investments acquired the business in November 2024 -- though it's extremely difficult to find official information about the investment firm...

1. United States - Energy Secretary Attacks Net Zero Goals: U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright called a pledge to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 a "sinister goal," and he criticized the British government's attempts to hit clean energy targets, Reuters reported.
2. United States - Potential Colorado Regulations: Keep an eye on Colorado House Bill 25-1119, which could introduce climate disclosure regulations in Colorado.Â
3. United States - Tennessee Nuclear Policy: Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has proposed spending nearly $100 million on nuclear energy investments in his state budget; $50 million would go toward building a potential SMR along the Clinch River in Oak Ridge, according to WKRN.
4. United States - EV Charger Networks: General Motors expects to slash battery pack prices further this year; companies are rushing to add more electric-vehicle chargers in the U.S.; and power grids are becoming smarter, Bloomberg reported.
5. United Kingdom - Nuclear Energy: X-Energy wants Britain to provide clarity on financial and regulatory support before building nuclear power plants in the country, The Times reported. Without such clarity, X-Energy may consider shifting its focus to alternative countries, the report said. Key X-Energy investors include Amazon.
6. Japan Climate Goals: Japan will aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions 60% by 2035 from 2013 levels under a revised climate target, a policy seen as falling short of action required to meet Paris Agreement goals, Bloomberg reported.
