Sustainability News 28 March 2024: ClimateHaven, Green Project Technologies, Persefoni, More

A. Sustainable Technology, Talent, Partnerships and Green IT Alliances

1. Software - Carbon Accounting Partners: Green Project Technologies has launched Green Project White Label solution. This product allows consultancies, accountants, and third-party software firms–to embed carbon accounting directly into their existing sustainability practices, Green Project said.

2. Scope 3 Supply Chain Management Software: Persefoni has released Persefoni Pro, a free tool that provides enterprise-grade capabilities to SMB organizations, the company said.

3. Scope 3 Emissions Estimates: AI and large language models (LLMs) provide a "promising new approach" for estimating Scope 3 emissions, IBM asserts.

4. Data Center Expansion: The NTT Data Global Data Centers division will develop and operate a third data center campus in Berlin. This addition is part of NTT DATA’s global expansion efforts to "meet a growing demand for data usage and computation, with over $10 billion in data center growth projected for fiscal years 2023-27 across key markets around the globe," the company said. 5. Carbon Credits and SEC Rules: Several private-equity firms have entered the carbon-credit market, seeing opportunity in the demand for high-quality credits as new SEC pollution-disclosure rules are expected to bring more transparency to the sector, The Wall Street Journal reported.

6. Partnership - Built Environment: SOCOTEC USA and Bisnow are partnering to "educate audiences on reduction of carbon emissions within the built environment," the two companies said.

7. Partnership: Getech and Expro have partnered to "propel low-carbon geoenergy projects, including geothermal energy, natural hydrogen and carbon capture and storage (CCS)," the two companies said.

B. Sustainability M&A, Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches

1. Accelerator: ReGen Accelerator, a partnership of Kaplak Ventures and ClimateHaven, has launched its inaugural cohort of climate tech companies. Participants include: Global Biochar; Tolam Earth; TeamStack.ai; Aich2; and Tesleon, which is incubated out of Midnight Oil Collective. The first ReGen program will culminate on May 28, 2024 with the ReGen Showcase -- a demo day and networking event at ClimateHaven. The event will be held on the eve of the Yale Innovation Summit. 2. M&A - Waste Management: Blue Planet Environmental Solutions has acquired Vac-Tech Engineering Pte, a provider of hazardous waste management and transportation. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

3. M&A - Data Centers: Park Place Technologies has acquired SDV Solutions, which provides data center infrastructure solutions exclusively to Federal Government agencies. Park Place has been expanding its data center services to include sustainability capabilities.

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies and News

1. COP29 - China: Azerbaijan is eager to engage in talks with China regarding COP29 issues, said Hikmet Hajiyev, Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, in an interview with Global Times, Azernews reports.

2. United Kingdom: Britain's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions fell by 5.4% in 2023, government data showed, with less gas used to generate electricity and heat homes, Reuters reported.

3. Australia - Solar Energy: Australia will invest A$1 billion (US$652 million) to ensure more solar panels are made domestically, as the nation looks to reduce its dependence on solar product imports from China, Bloomberg reported.

4. Australia - Climate Reporting Regulations: Australia's biggest companies will likely face mandatory climate reporting from 1 January 2025 -- six months later than originally planned, Argus reported.
