Sustainable IT Services News 30 October 2025: Lenovo ESG Team; HPE-Nvidia Partner; GM EV Layoffs; Tesla CEO Contingency Plan

Here is today's sustainable IT services news, research and analysis for channel partners, MSPs, climate accounting professionals, consultants and the chief sustainability officers (CSOs) they serve.

A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Strategies

1. Lenovo Strategy: Mary Jacques, Lenovo's executive director of global environmental, social and governance (ESG) and regulatory compliance, now leads a global team of roughly 50 people, according to Computer Weekly. Roughly 40 of those employees focus on sustainability and ESG, and the rest on product compliance, spanning North and Latin America, EMEA, China and South-East Asia, the report said.

2. Partnership - Smart City and IT Services: The town of Vail, Colorado has tapped HP Enterprise, Nvidia and several IT service providers for AI-based cloud services and associated infrastructure and that will "make the city smarter, safer and more sustainable," Vail officials said. 3. Electric Vehicle (EV) Layoffs: General Motors layoffs involved roughly 1,200 employees at Detroit’s electric vehicle plant and 550 cuts at Ohio’s Ultium Cells battery cell plant, in addition to 850 temporary layoffs at that site in Ohio, CNBC reported. GM also said it would temporarily lay off 700 at Ultium Cells’ Tennessee plant, the report said. Related: List of all sustainability industry layoffs.

4. Tesla CEO Transition?: Tesla is prepared to name a new CEO from inside the company if shareholders reject Elon Musk’s proposed pay package and he steps down, Bloomberg reported. Moreover, the strategy could call for more than one executive to lead the company, the report added. Related: Tesla AI strategy timeline.

5. Executive Leadership: Tower Peak Partners, a sustainable investment firm, has hired KPMG and Plastic Energy veteran Monika Dangova as VP and head of sustainability. Related: List of sustainability executive hires for October 2025.

1. United States - Data Center Policies: Multiple lawmakers are investigating how AI and data center energy consumption can impact power costs for consumers and small businesses.

2. United States - OpenAI and Energy Policy: OpenAI encouraged the U.S. to commit to building 100 gigawatts of new energy capacity each year, CNBC reported.

3. Canada - Net Zero Building Costs: New net zero building regulations could add 10% to 15% to building prices, according to Cambridge Today.
