Deloitte Adds Sustainability Clause to Customer Contracts

January 9, 2023 by Joe Panettieri

Deloitte plans to include a "sustainable delivery" clause – known as Clause Zero - in customer engagement letters and contracts starting in 2023, the global IT consulting firm said.

The clause, part of Deloitte's WorldClimate initiative, will encourage and support the firm and its clients to deliver projects in a more sustainable way, the company asserted. For example, Deloitte will:

  • Leverage online tools and a web-based travel emissions calculator to help make low carbon choices when travel is required.
  • Source 100% renewable electricity for office buildings.
  • Convert its car fleet to plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles.
  • And ensure that more than two-thirds of suppliers have set their own science-based carbon reduction targets, the firm said.

Still, Deloitte did not offer specific details about how it may inspire customers to embrace the sustainability clause.

Deloitte is one of the world's largest professional services firms. The London, England-based company has roughly 415,000 employees as of 2022. Key areas of focus include IT consulting, managed IT services and accounting.
