Solar Panel Maker Waaree Energies Hires Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO): 4 Things to Know

June 5, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Waaree Energies Ltd. has hired Prabhu Narayan Singh as the chief sustainability officer (CSO), the solar panel manufacturer announced.

Here are four things to know about the CSO, and Waree's business focus.

1. Business Scope and Scale: Waaree Energies Limited, founded in 1990, is based in Mumbai, India. The company, backed by roughly 8,500 employees, claims to be India’s largest manufacturer of solar PV modules with the largest aggregate installed capacity of 12 GW, as of June 2023. Waaree has four solar module manufacturing facilities and nearly 400 franchisees in India, along with an international presence.

2. Sustainability Strategy: Although Waaree's solar technology is helping customers with their sustainability strategies, we have not seen specific sustainability or net-zero goals for Waaree's own business. We've reached out to the company for potential comment.

3. New Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) - Experience and Expertise: Prabhu Narayan Singh has over three decades of industry experience, including managerial and senior managerial roles at various renewable energy companies in India, Waaree notes.

Previous posts, according to his LinkedIn account, include head of ESG at Vikram Solar (2022-2024), assistant VP and head of ESG/EHS at ReNew Power (2018-2022) and deputy general manager for ESG/EHS at FLSmith.

4. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement, Prabhu Narayan Singh said: "I am honored to join Waaree Energies Limited during this pivotal moment in its sustainability journey. The Company's dedication to sustainable practices resonates with my own values. I am eager to channel my experience towards leading transformative ESG initiatives that not only elevate the Company's environmental and social impact but also reinforce its position in sustainability in the renewable energy sector."

Chief Sustainability Officers: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
