Redwoods AI Chief Sustainability Officer Catherine Atkin: 4 Things to Know

January 22, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Redwoods AI Inc has hired attorney and carbon accounting legislation expert Catherine Atkin as chief sustainability officer, the artificial intelligence (AI) software startup disclosed.

Here are four things to know about Atkin's experience, and the Redwoods.ai sustainability strategy.

1. Business Scope and Scale: Redwoods AI, founded in 2023, is based in Pleasanton, California. The startup software company develops an AI Co-Pilot ESG SaaS Platform for enterprise customers. The software platform integrates with SAP, Workday, Salesforce, Oracle, NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics. Customers can leverage the software as part of an effort to achieve various sustainability and compliance reporting goals.

2. Funding, Net Zero Goals and Software Partnership Strategy: We're watching to see if/when the company announces funding, its own net-zero goals, and a potential partner program for technology integrators -- especially those that specialize in ERP (enterprise resource planning) software.

3. Catherine Atkin's Role and Experience: As chief sustainable officer (CSO), Atkin will "advance the product strategy and growth for Redwoods.ai and deepen the company’s climate-tech capabilities, technology solutions and outreach," the company said.

Atkin is an attorney and expert on global carbon data architecture and GHG emissions policies. In a previous role as director of Carbon Accountable, she developed a legislative proposal and acted as the main technical advisor on California’s recently enacted corporate GHG emissions reporting law (SB 253), the company noted. Atkin also is a Stanford Law School CodeX Fellow and chair of the Climate Data Policy Initiative (CDPI), a project that "brings together climate experts, policy makers and technologists to inform the development of climate data policies with a special focus on how next-gen technologies like AI, IoT and blockchain can accelerate innovation and climate impact," the firm said.

4. Executive Perspectives: Atkin reports to Redwoods AI CEO Arvind Reddy. In a prepared statement about hiring Atkin, Reddy said: “The appointment of Catherine as Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) is an exciting milestone for Redwoods.ai as we continue to broaden our climatic product services and solutions. With her deep compliance and technology experience and passion for supply chain sustainability, Catherine will be a great addition to our leadership team as we innovate for our customers, create value for our shareholders and contribute to a sustainable future.”

Redwoods AI Chief Sustainability Officer: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
