November 7, 2023 by Joe Panettieri

Multiple companies hired or promoted executives into the chief sustainability officer (CSO) role during October 2023. The CSO appointments happened worldwide at companies across multiple vertical markets -- including distribution, government, education, FinTech, heavy equipment, IT services, software, & more.

Here are the CSO names technology partners need to know:

1. Elizabeth Babcock: Denver Mayor Mike Johnston has named Elizabeth Babcock to lead the Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency (CASR). Babcock essentially shifts from deputy director to executive director for the Office of CASR.

2. Chris Bradshaw: Bentley Systems Chief Marketing Officer Chris Bradshaw has shifted to chief sustainability officer (CSO) at the infrastructure engineering software company.

3. David Costa: When NTT Data and NTT complete their long-planned merger in April 2024, David Costa will become chief sustainability business officer (CSBO) for the entire company -- which offers IT services and IT consulting capabilities worldwide.

4. Jessica Davis: Indiana University (IU) named Jessica Davis as associate vice president and the university's first chief sustainability officer (CSO).

5. Jonathan de Wolff: InKind, a FinTech startup that serves more than 1,000 restaurants, named Chief People Officer Jonathan de Wolff to the additional role of chief sustainability officer (CSO).

New CSOs: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
