Eddisons Head of Sustainability and Decarbonization Nazar Soofi: 4 Things to Know

January 23, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Eddisons has hired Nazar Soofi (pictured above) as head of sustainability and decarbonization -- a newly created position for the property consulting company.

Here are four things to know about Soofi's experience and the Eddisons sustainability strategy.

1. Business Scope and Scale: Eddisons, founded in 1844, is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The company has 26 offices across the United Kingdom and roughly 300 employees -- many of whom are chartered surveyors. Eddisons offers professional services to property owners and occupiers, businesses and financial institutions.

2. New Sustainability Hub: Eddisons is launching a new sustainability centre of excellence, based at its Leeds head offices. The centre will offer guidance on carbon reduction and environmental best practices across the public and private sectors. We don't know if the company has formally announced its own timeline for achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

3. Nazar Soofi's Experience: Soofi previously delivering the £50m decarbonisation programme at Leeds City Council that has become a "global benchmark for sustainable urban development," Eddisons said in a statement. Moreover, Soofi has led the transformation of more than 80 sites in the city since 2021, including Leeds Town Hall, Civic Hall and Central Library -- transitioning them from fossil fuels reliance to renewable energy, his new employer said.

Soofi previously held key posts at Weir Minerals, Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), and Bechtel.

4. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement about hiring Soofi, Eddisons Managing Partner Anthony Spencer said: “Naz is a leading light in the field of decarbonisation and sustainability and we are absolutely thrilled that he is joining Eddisons, where his contribution will enable us to make a step change in the services we can offer our clients in providing the very best advice and practical assistance on sustainability. We are passionate about sustainability and there is huge and growing demand from our clients for advice on best practice in this area. Headed by Naz, our new centre of excellence will be a ground-breaking facility that will act as a beacon in the progress to net zero.”

Added Soofi: “I’m really excited to take on this new role with Eddisons, which as a business is ahead of the curve on sustainability. My appointment is testament to the fact that they are fully committed to supporting their clients to realising their net zero ambitions. The new centre of excellence will be an accessible one stop shop providing practical advice on anything from a cradle to grave project to troubleshooting, and the most practical ways to achieve sustainability aims. I am looking forward to working with private and public sector organisations and steering sustainable and environmentally conscious practices right across the UK.”

Eddisons Head of Sustainability: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
