1. IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) - Education Sector: CTL, a major Google Chromebook manufacturer, is expanding its ITAD services for schools and businesses. The effort comes after CTR acquired 3R Technology in April 2025. CTL is backed by private equity firm Columbia River Partners.
2. IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) - U.S. Expansion: Advanced Technology Recycling (ATR) has expanded its Data Center IT Asset Management Services throughout the United States.
3. Data Center - Heat Reuse: A Kesko retail store in the Nordics will leverage waste heat from atNorth’s FIN02 data center in Sinimäki, Espoo, the companies said.
B. Sustainability M&A, Climate Tech Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Startup Funding - Supply Chain Sustainability: Elm AI, a Cornell University spinout and an AI-based platform helping enterprises improve sustainability and operational performance across their supply chains, has raised $2 million in an oversubscribed funding round. Beta Boom Fund and Working Capital Fund led the round.
2. Funding - Energy as a Service: Caban has raised $50 million in new equity funding from existing investors. Caban develops battery storage and energy management technologies. Key investors include private equity firm Ember Infrastructure Management. Valuation details were not disclosed.
3. AI Infrastructure - European Expansion?: Stargate, the $500 billion U.S. datacenter project spearheaded by SoftBank and OpenAI, is mulling a future investment in the U.K. as it explores overseas locations to set up AI infrastructure, the Financial Times reported.
4. M&A Discussions - AI Software: OpenAI is in talks to acquire Windsurf, an AI-assisted coding tool formerly known as Codeium, for about $3 billion, Bloomberg reported.
5. M&A - No Deal: Onsemi has ended an effort to acquire Allegro MicroSystems, because Allegro had rejected Onsemi's $6.9 billion offer for the chip maker.
6. Solar Energy - Bankruptcy?: Sunnova Energy may face bankruptcy if the residential solar company fails to receive fresh cash from creditors, Bloomberg reported.
C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies and News
1. United States - Green Stock Exchange: A new stock exchange dedicated to sustainable investing moved a step closer to opening after receiving backing from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Bloomberg reported. The Green Impact Exchange (GIX) said the SEC approved an amended application to register as a national securities exchange. An SEC spokesperson confirmed the the application approval. The exchange expects to begin trading in 2026, Bloomberg said.
2. United States - Offshore Wind Energy: The Trump administration's decision to halt construction of Equinor's Empire Wind 1 farm off the coast of New York sent shockwaves through the offshore wind industry, raising concerns that fully-permitted developments representing billions in investment are not safe, Reuters reported.
3. European Union - Critics Raise Concerns: Climate and human rights campaigners filed a complaint against the European Commission, accusing the EU executive of weakening sustainability laws without first consulting the public about the changes or assessing their impact, Reuters reported.
