Sustainability News for Technology Partners: 15 February 2023

1. Supply Chain Monitoring: Sustainability consulting firm Quantis has launched the Tracking Progress in the Supply Chain (TPSC) Report, according to Sourcing Journal.

2. ESG Monitoring: Norwegian industrial group Aker ASA has selected pulsESG as its SaaS platform for monitoring ESG data collection, management and analytics. Key pulsESG investors include Accenture and Workday Ventures.

3. ESG Partnership: Osborne Clarke is partnering with Illuminem as an ESG advisor on legal matters. Osborne Clarke is an international legal practice headquartered in London, England, United Kingdom. Illuminem i a resource for energy and sustainability information.

4. ESG Investing Challenges: Al Gore’s struggles with ESG show the messiness of green investing, according to Bloomberg.

5. Big Tech and Green Energy - Part One: Japanese trading house Itochu has agreed to supply wind-generated power to Facebook parent Meta Platforms in the United States and solar energy to Amazon in Japan, according to Reuters. Itochu plans to supply wind-generated power to Meta from the Texas-based Prairie Switch Wind project, the report added.

6. Big Tech and Green Energy - Part Two: Corporations bought a record 36.7 gigawatts in renewable energy last year, according to BloombergNEF. That was up a respectable 18 percent from 2021 levels, GreenBiz reported. Recent partnerships announced by Microsoft, through its unique link-up with turnkey solar supplier Qcells, and Salesforce, which is buying clean power in emerging markets, provide hints of what the future may hold, GreenBiz noted.

9. Partnership - Battery Research: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) have partnered to develop advanced battery cell technologies in a bid to expedite the global transition to sustainable energy.

10. Call for Code: IBM's 2023 Call for Code Global Challenge is now open to participants who are developing clean energy solutions and more.

11. M&A:  Recycle Track Systems has acquired Cycle Technology Inc., including its reverse vending machine (RVM) technology and recycling rewards platform. Financial terms were not disclosed.

12. Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations: The Biden administration issued long-awaited final rules on its national electric vehicle charger network that require the chargers to be built in the United States immediately, and with 55% of their cost coming from U.S.-made components by 2024, Reuters reported. Moreover, Tesla will open part of its U.S. charging network to electric vehicles (EVs) made by rivals as part of the federal program, the report noted.

13. Electronic Vehicles (EV) Spending: Annual spending on passenger EVs hit $388 billion in 2022, up 53% from 2021, according to BlioombergNEF research.

14. Sweden: An e-battery factory and new cultural center have put the city of Skelleftea at the heart of an eco-urban renaissance, Bloomberg reports.
