Mitie Launches Managed Carbon Reporting Service; MSP Taps Salesforce Net Zero Cloud

March 7, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

The rise of manage sustainability services continues. The latest example involves Mitie, which has plugged into Salesforce Net Zero Cloud to launch a managed carbon reporting and reduction service.

Mitie, founded in 1987, is a facilities management and professional services company based in London, United Kingdom. Revenue exceeded £4 billion (US$5.1 billion) in fiscal year 2023 for the first time. The overall business serves 3,000 customers.

Phil Bentley, CEO, Mitie

Mitie's Plan Zero Consulting team and associated sustainability specialists spans more than 1,000 decarbonization experts. The team offers guidance across buildings, energy, transport, waste and nature, to help customers with net-zero strategies. Key customers include Lloyds Banking Group, Vodafone, Royal Mail and Essex County Council.

Carbon Reporting as a Managed Service; Alignment With Salesforce Net Zero Cloud

Mitie's new managed service, known as Emissions Intelligence, provides a carbon reporting and reduction service to customers. The service leverages Salesforce Net Zero Cloud to house customers' environmental, social, and governance data, and connect it with other data and systems in the organization.

Reporting can align with European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and other compliance mandates.

Mitie will align with the managed service with its portfolio of decarbonization solutions -- including solar PV, heat pumps, battery storage and more, the company said.

Mitie and Salesforce: Executive Perspectives on Managed Sustainability Services

In a prepared statement about the managed services launch, Mitie CEO Phil Bentley said: “Efficient carbon reporting is an absolute necessity for businesses today. Not only is it a catalyst for achieving net zero but it is a ‘must have’ for customers, colleagues and investors alike. Our ‘Emissions Intelligence’ service is designed to ease the reporting burden through technology at a time when organisations are faced with ever more stringent regulatory requirements."

Bentley added: "By pairing our extensive decarbonisation capabilities with Salesforce’s technology, we can seamlessly unlock emissions intelligence for our customers. With long-established relationships with customers from across the built environment, we understand the complexities organisations in all sectors are facing as they work towards net zero."

Zahra Bahrololoumi CBE, CEO of Salesforce UK and Ireland

Noted Zahra Bahrololoumi CBE, CEO of Salesforce UK and Ireland: “As ESG reporting goes from voluntary to mandatory, the pressure companies face both in terms of business opportunity and the unprecedented risk to address reporting and ESG metrics has never been greater."

Bahrololoumi added: "We’re thrilled to partner with Mitie to help scale action on the climate emergency and deliver a complete ESG management solution that combines data and AI with the trusted and flexible Salesforce platform. We believe our combined strengths — digitised carbon reporting and reduction, embedded with facilities transformation — will accelerate the progress of UK businesses on the path to net zero. As business leaders, we all have a responsibility to improve the state of the world by serving all stakeholders – including the planet."

MSPs, Consulting and Salesforce Net Zero Cloud

Multiple MSPs and consulting firms are embracing Salesforce Net Zero Cloud as a platform to assist customers with their sustainability strategies. Key examples include:

Meanwhile, Salesforce continues to launch additional sustainability services for customers and partners. One example involves the Clean Energy Program Management for the Energy & Utilities Cloud. The new solution "streamlines the launch, management, and oversight of energy efficiency, conservation, electrification, and EV charging programs to help electric, gas, and water utilities increase customer participation in clean energy programs," Salesforce said.
