A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Strategies
1. Apple - Executive Pay Packages: Apple quietly dropped a so-called “ESG modifier” from its 2025 pay packages for CEO Tim Cook and other top executives, Bloomberg reported. The provision, in place since 2021, had allowed Apple’s board to adjust annual bonuses up or down by as much as 10% depending on the company’s performance on a variety of measures, including greenhouse-gas reductions and renewable energy use among suppliers, the report said. 2. Microsoft - Renewable Energy Milestone: Microsoft has reached its goal of matching its total annual global electricity consumption with renewable sources, The Wall Street Journal reported. 3. Google and India: Google is striving to help India accelerate its decarbonization and climate technology initiatives. Toward that end, Google has launched a Center for Climate Technology on India's Manthan platform, according to a blog from Vrushali Gaud, director of climate operations at Google. 4. Managed Services - Building Energy Management: Thrive Buildings has introduced ThriveIQ, a managed service "designed to help organizations sustain energy savings, improve safety, and continuously enhance operational performance in critical environments," the company said.
5. Managed Services and Carbon Accounting: Normative has unveiled Carbon Inventory Managed Services, a professional service "designed for companies that need dedicated execution support for building complete carbon inventories." The managed service can help to "coordinate data collection, clean, structure and upload your data, and manage the process without changing your reporting setup," Normative said.
6. IT Services: FinOps and GreenOps need to converge in the cloud, according to Tech Mahindra, the India-based IT service provider.
7. Partnership - Data Centers and Renewable Energy: Zeo Energy Corp. and Creekstone Energy are partnering to deliver renewable energy to a Gigasite data center that's under construction in Millard County, Utah, the two companies said.
8. Tesla Robotaxi Safety Concerns: Tesla’s Austin, Texas robotaxis have been involved in 14 crashes since June 2025, with five accidents occurring in December 2025 and January 2026, raising concerns that the autonomously driven vehicle may be more accident-prone than humans, SeekingAlpha reported. 9. Talent - AI Software: OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger is joining OpenAI, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
B. Sustainable IT Investments, Acquisitions, Funding and More
1. Earnings - Software: Workiva's Q4 revenue in 2025 was $239 million, up 20% from Q4 of 2024. The company's software platform allows customers to manage financial reporting; sustainability management ; and governance, risk and compliance. Despite Workiva's continued growth, the company's stock ($WK) is down about 31% so far in 2026 (as of February 20). Workiva in January 2026 added two independent directors to its board: Former Cisco CFO Scott Herren and former Workday CFO Mark Peek. Also, Workiva in January 2026 hired SentinelOne veteran Barbara Larson as executive VP and CFO. Workiva since late 2025 or so has been striving to avoid an activist investor showdown.
2. Accelerator - Green Bay, Wisconsin: The Sustainable Business Council (SBC) as of February 2026 is accepting applications from small and mid-sized businesses to participate in the Green Bay Sustainable Business Accelerator, a free, six-month cohort program with space for up to 10 businesses. Supported by a grant from the Daybreak Fund, the accelerator helps Green Bay businesses strengthen sustainability practices, reduce environmental impacts, and improve long-term resilience, the organizations said. 3. M&A - AI Data Centers and Energy Efficiency: Legrand has acquired Kratos Industries, a manufacturer of low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) power equipment. Legrand has also invested in Accelsius, which specializes in two-phase, direct-to-chip liquid cooling technologies. The moves "enable data centers to meet the escalating demands of AI and high-density compute environments," Legrand said.
4. M&A and Executive Leadership: Opportune LLP has acquired the Consulting & Advocacy Practice of Pickering Energy Partners LP (PEP). As part of the deal, Practice Leader Daniel Romito and his team will join Opportune to advise clients and lead the firm’s growing sustainability and energy expansion practices, the buyer said. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
