1. AWS - AI Data Centers and Energy Efficiency: Amazon announced several steps to drive AI innovation while improving data center availability and energy efficiency.
2. Partner of the Year - IT Services: AWS has named Capgemini as its sustainability partner of the year for 2024. The honor highlights the Capgemini Emissions Experience Centre (EEC), which is an "established co-innovation ecosystem with AWS to support energy companies in achieving net-zero objectives."
3. Partnership - Cloud Operations: Cloudera and AWS are partnering to deliver "cost efficient and sustainable infrastructure for AI and analytics," the two companies said.
4. Partnership - Green IT Services: Accesa and metafinanz are partnering to promote two key services -- green application modernization and integrated cybersecurity.
5. Joint Research - Market Analysis: Schneider Electric and Women Action Sustainability (WAS), a non-profit association, have published a new report entitled, "Creating Sustainable Impact: Building Resilience Through Climate Adaptation". The report highlights "how businesses from various industries and regions are addressing climate-related risks with adaptation strategies and identifies market opportunities and gaps that require attention."
6. Energy Efficient Networking: Ericsson continues to pitch rApps as a technology for building more sustainable mobile networks.
7. Brand Overhaul: Rechargeable battery maker EBL will overhaul its brand to emphasize "environmental protection, green, sustainability, and future." The unveiling is set for CES 2025.
8. Earnings Pressure: Honeywell's stock fell 3.6% after the company cut its earnings guidance for the year, SeekingAlpha reported. Honeywell's global business remains in transition as the manufacturing and technology giant seeks to ride market shifts involving artificial intelligence (AI), automation, aviation and the energy transition.
B. Sustainability M&A, Climate Tech Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Accelerator: Tencent has launched the CarbonX Program 2.0, which seeks to fund startups and early stage technologies. The 2.0 program is accepting applications through May 2025.
2. M&A - Exit: General Motors plans to sell its stake in a $2.6 billion electric vehicle battery cell plant in Lansing, Michigan, to its joint venture partner LG Energy Solution, CNBC reported. The GM stake is worth roughly $1 billion, the report said.
3. M&A - Smart Metering: EQT and GIC have acquired Calisen, a smart metering company in the United Kingdom. Key Calisen focus areas include smart meter, electric vehicle charging, solar and battery, and heat pump installation, meter reading, maintenance and ancillary services. Equitix remains a minority investor. The sellers included BlackRock, Goldman Sachs Alternatives and Mubadala Investment Company. Equitix will remain a minority investor.

1. Italy - Climate Insurance: Starting in 2025, every company in Italy must buy climate insurance to protect its assets from floods, landslides and other natural hazards that have become more common thanks to global warming, Bloomberg reported.
