A. Sustainable Technology, Talent, Partnerships and Green IT Alliances

1. Sustainability Reporting Chart: PwC has launched a Sustainability Reporting Adoption Tracker -- a global map that allows users to search and view local regulatory or legal sustainability reporting requirements by territory.

2. Executive Leadership - Consulting: Oliver Wyman, a global strategy and management consulting firm, has named Ziad Moukarzel to lead firm’s Climate & Sustainability practice.

3. Right to Repair - Investigation: The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is probing farm equipment maker Deere over the company's right to repair policies, Reuters reported.

4. Partnership - Carbon Capture Technology Test: Honeywell and the University of Texas at Austin are testing carbon capture technology in western Norway at the Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM).

5. Carbon Capture Concerns: Problems at an Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) plant in Central Illinois have triggered questions about the safety of about 150 other carbon capture wells proposed across the U.S., most with taxpayer funding, Oil and Gas Watch reported.

6. Building Materials - Cement Concerns: U.S. environmental groups have stepped up a campaign to get cement maker Holcim to curb its carbon footprint, Reuters reported, writing to its chairman and potential investors in its North American business before it is spun off next year.

7. Schools and Energy Consumption: Mountain Vector Energy, an energy and water management company, is pitching Cufflink software to help schools monitor real-time utility usage to reduce waste, save money and improve sustainability.

8. EV Charging Market Challenges: Enel Group is closing its North American EV charging subsidiary, and ENGIE is shutting down its EVBox subsidiary. In a Linkedin update, ChargeLab CEO Zak Lefevre wrote: "While few details are available, this already looks like a case study on how to exit gracefully (ENGIE) vs. how to hurt customers and tarnish your brand (Enel)."

B. Sustainability M&A, Climate Tech Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches

1. Accelerator - KPMG Nature Positive Challenge: The Nature Positive Challenge focuses on "rebuilding and protecting natural ecosystems and promoting sustainable agriculture and food systems," the company said. The 2024 annual competition is open to startups in Australia, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

2. Financial Management Services: The California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) has selected NinetyOne -- an investment management firm -- to oversee a $150 million investment mandate tied to sustainability.

3. M&A - Consulting: SLR has acquired Wardell Armstrong, an Environmental, Engineering and Mining consultancy operating in the United Kingdom and internationally. Wardell Armstrong, founded in 1837, has been carbon neutral since 2020, the seller asserts. SLR Consulting, backed by private equity firm Ares Management, remains one of the most active buyers of sustainability- and ESG-focused consulting firms worldwide. Here's a list of SLR acquisitions.

4. Potential M&A - Nuclear Power and Data Centers: Ubitus K.K, a cloud services company backed by Nvidia, is looking to acquire land to build a data center in Kyoto, Shimane, or a prefecture in Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, owing to the availability of nuclear power in the region, Bloomberg reported and SeekingAlpha recapped.

1. Canada - Climate Lawsuit: The court of appeal in Canada's most populous province ordered a new hearing in a youth-led lawsuit claiming Ontario's climate plan violates young people's rights, Reuters reports.
