1. Data Center Setback: Ireland has rejected Google's plan to build a data center just outside Dublin because Google's plan fails to meet some of Ireland’s sustainability requirements, Bloomberg reported.
2. ESG Software - SaaS Migration: Cority in 2025 will transition all customers leveraging one of its sustainability solutions to the company’s SaaS-based CorityOne platform. The migration essentially is a next-step move after Cority acquired Greenstone, WeSustain, and Reporting 21 over the past three years. Meanwhile, private equity firm Thoma Bravo may be seeking to sell Cority for roughly $2 billion, Reuters reported.
3. Partnership - Grid Monitoring Solutions: GE Vernova and Systems With Intelligence (SWI) are partnering to improve grid asset management.
4. Partnership - E-Waste Reduction: UK distributor Westcoast and Closing the Loop have partnered to prevent tablets and laptop computers from ending up in landfills, the two companies said. The relationship is part of a larger Westcoast sustainability strategy.
5. Partnership - Renewable Energy Infrastructure: Blink Charging and Create Energy are partnering to help customers "integrate their energy assets through one centralized platform." The partnership spans EV charging systems, solar panels, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transformers, switchgear, and EPC services. Key target customers include Tier 1 automotive providers.
6. New Product Demos: Watch for Omron to demonstrate various clean energy solutions at the RE+ 24 conference in Anaheim California. Moreover, OMRON will showcase a product integration with Lynkwell, a provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging hardware, software and service solutions.
7. EV Trucks - Executive Leadership: Hydrogen and EC truck specialist Nikola has hired Thomas "Tom" Schmitt as chief commercial officer (CCO) of Nikola.
8. Building Decarbonization - HVAC Solutions: Daikin Applied has launched a new self-contained HVAC system (Model SWP J-Vintage) to help support building decarbonization.
9. Awards: SEAL (Sustainability, Environmental Achievement & Leadership) has announced its 2024 Sustainability Leadership Awards -- which honors the top ESG executive leaders in Sustainability, EHS, CSR.
B. Sustainability M&A, Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Solar Power - Plummeting Stock: Swiss solar panel maker Meyer Burger Technology AG’s shares are in free fall, Bloomberg reported, after failed plans to set up a cell factory in the United States put the company on track for restructuring.
2. Funding - Emerging Technology: The Exelon Climate Change Investment Initiative (2C2i) announced investments in Eion, Metal Light, ReVert Technologies, and Station A. Financial terms were not disclosed.
3. M&A - Emissions Monitoring: ABB is acquiring Födisch Group, a developer of measurement and analytical solutions for the energy and industrial sectors. The acquisition enhances ABB’s offering in continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS), the buyer said. Födisch Group reported about €50 million in revenue and approximately 250 employees in 2023. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
4. M&A - Renewable Energy Infrastructure: Vitis Energy has acquired a 200MW energy storage project in Texas from Black Mountain Energy Storage. Vitis Energy, a company launched in 2022, is pursuing additional solar, battery, and hydrogen-ready power plant acquisitions.

1. Global Renewable Energy Consumption: Zero-carbon technologies comprised more than 40% of global electricity generation for the first time in 2023, BloombergNEF reported.
2. Global Solar Power Installations: These 15 countries have the most solar power installed, according to Visual Capitalist. Solar installs in China easily outpace the United States by roughly a 4 to 1 margin.
3. United States - Clean Energy Employment: Jobs in the U.S. clean energy industry in 2023 grew at more than double the rate of the country's overall jobs, Reuters reported, and unionization in clean energy surpassed for the first time the rate in the wider energy industry, the Energy Department said.
4. Canada -Financial Services: Canada’s financial institutions are falling short when it comes to the investment levels in renewables needed to reach net zero emissions, Bloomberg reported based on Investors for Paris Compliance research.
5. Germany - Renewable Energy Permits: As most countries struggle to install clean energy fast enough, Germany tackled the industry’s toughest problem: slow permitting, Bloomberg reported.
6. Germany - Renewable Energy Pushback: Germany’s far-right AfD party, hoping to clinch its first wins in two east German state elections on September 1, is trying to pick up countryside votes by making opposition to renewable energy projects a centerpiece of its campaign, Reuters reported.
7. India - Microsoft Renewable Energy Partnership: Microsoft signed a 437.6 MW green attribute contract with Indian renewable energy company ReNew, SeekingAlpha reported.
