1. Green Countries: Vatican City apparently will become the eighth country worldwide to achieve 100% green energy, ESG News reported. Albania, Bhutan, Nepal, Paraguay, Ethiopia, Iceland and Congo already generate over 99.7% of their electricity from renewables, the report said.
2. United States - ESG Investing Debate: A challenge to a Biden administration rule allowing socially conscious investing by employee retirement plans will present an early test of how courts will scrutinize federal regulations, Reuters reported, after the U.S. Supreme Court said they no longer have to defer to the expertise of the agencies that issued them.
3. United States - Massachusetts Energy Transition: A new Energy Transformation Advisory Board is "charged with guiding the state’s transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy," NBC Boston reported. Massachusetts has set a goal of a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050, the report noted.

5. Switzerland Regulations: The Swiss Federal Council has commenced a consultation on proposed amendments to the Swiss Code of Obligations that would introduce significantly expanded sustainability reporting requirements, legal firm Ropes & Gray reported.
6. Japan - Energy Transition: Japan can triple its renewables capacity and aim to phase out coal power by 2035, a group of companies and NGOs said, as it urged the government to be more ambitious in accelerating its energy transition, Bloomberg reported.
7. China - Solar Energy Industry Technology Glut: China’s floundering solar sector will continue to face tough times in the short-term, major manufacturer Longi Green Energy Technology Co. said, as an oversupplied market keeps profits suppressed, Bloomberg reported.
