Here is today’s sustainable IT services and climate tech news, research and analysis -- written for technology partners, green IT service providers, CIOs, chief sustainability officers (CSOs) and climate accounting professionals.
A. Sustainable IT, Talent, Partnerships and Green Tech Alliances
1. Partnership - Renewable Energy Installation Services: Sunder Energy has agreed to resell and install Savant's Smart Electrical Panel technology -- providing homeowners with "critical usage data and intuitive app control over their home energy systems," the companies said.
2. SBTi Imploding?: The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) was seen as the benchmark for corporate climate ambition, but is now trying to stay relevant after a year of missteps, The Wall Street Journal reported.
B. Sustainability M&A, Climate Tech Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Startup Accelerator at CES 2025: ZEBOX, an international accelerator backed by 14 major corporations, will showcase 10 decarbonization startups at the CES 2025 conference in Las Vegas.
2. Spin-Out: Certivo, a spinout from Pioneer Square Labs in partnership with Fortive, has launched as its own business to promote a sustainability compliance management platform. Key investors include the AI Studio Fund. Certivo's platform helps manufacturers to automate "regulatory and sustainability monitoring, certificate management, and supplier communications, providing actionable insights and predictive analytics to ensure compliance across global markets," the company said.
3. M&A Rumor: TPG is in talks to acquire Altus Power, Reuters reported, though there's no guarantee an agreement will occur. Altus Power has been up for sale since about October 2024. Around that time, the solar energy company's board launched a "formal review of strategic alternatives" -- which is financial jargon that means Altus Power would welcome acquisition offers and buyout proposals from potential bidders.
C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies and News
1. Japan Climate Goals: Japan's environment and industry ministries finalized a plan to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 60% from 2013 levels by 2035, up from its 2030 goal of a 46% cut, Reuters reported.
2. Australia Climate Goals: Australia in 2025 may announce new 2035 carbon reduction targets, but Donald Trump's return to the U.S. presidency has created climate policy uncertainty in Australia, Bloomberg reported.
