A. Sustainable Technology, Talent, Partnerships and Alliances

1. Chief Sustainability Officers: Our database of chief sustainability officers now spans 386 CSOs. The latest additions include:

2. Deloitte UK Momentum: Sustainability consulting helped to lift Deloitte UK's 2023 revenue 14%, the advisory and audit firm said.

3. Research - IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) Market Growth Forecast: The global IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) market is expected to reach $34 billion by 2030 -- up from $16.8 billion in 2022. That's a 9.2% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), according to Research and Markets.

4. Research - E-Waste Market Growth Forecast: Global spending on e-waste management will reach $164 billion by 2030, up from $56 billion in 2022, according to Vantage Market Research. That's a 14.2% compound annual growth rate, VMR said.

5. Talent - ESG Software: Measurabl, which develops an ESG platform for real estate, has hired Nadja Mladenovic as EMEA business development team Lead, based in London, and Ivett Witkamp as senior business development representative, based in Munich.

6. Carbon Accounting - Real Estate: CBRE Group, a commercial real estate services and investment firm, will leverage Emitwise software to collect greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) data from its supply chain and provide carbon accounting capabilities to its suppliers.

Partnership - ESG Reporting Software: EcoOnline customers can leverage the YuzeData Connected Data Platform to feed ESG data from various systems into the EcoOnline platform, the two companies said. 8. Deployment - HVAC Solutions: ECM Technologies has deployed an energy efficient HVAC solution, called ThermaClear, at Arizona State University.

9. Green Steel Myth?: Carmakers and steelmakers are sealing deals for green steel, and using them to tout their environmental credentials. The trouble is, the steel is still being forged using fossil-fuels and it’s not clear how soon that can change, Bloomberg reported.

10. COP28:  More than 20 oil and gas companies are rallying around COP28 President Sultan al-Jaber's calls to curb carbon emissions ahead of a United Nations summit on climate change, Jaber said.

B. Sustainability M&A, Investments, Funding and Business Launches

1. Investment: Schneider Electric has invested in Biofuels Junction, a Mumbai-based clean-energy venture. Biofuels Junction manufactures and aggregates solid biofuels in the form of briquettes and pellets made from agricultural residues to be used as a replacement for fossil fuels in various industries. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies and News

1. European Union - Carbon Policies: The EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) -- which strives to stop companies from shifting production to places with laxer climate policies has triggered a hostile reaction from trading partners including Russia and China, and added to tensions over green subsidies with the US, Bloomberg reported.

2. European Union - Finance: Asset managers selling funds into the European Union risk having client flows “meaningfully” disrupted as regulators in the bloc consider a major overhaul of ESG investing rules, according to analysts at Barclays Plc, Bloomberg reported.

3. European Union - Potential Climate Czar: Former Dutch foreign minister Wopke Hoekstra will try to convince European Parliament lawmakers to approve him as the EU's next head of climate change policy, responsible for emissions-cutting measures in the world's third-biggest economy, Reuters reported.

4. Bangladesh - Solar Power: Falling solar power prices can help ease an energy crunch in Bangladesh, where an over-dependence on fossil fuels has drained foreign-exchange reserves and jeopardized electricity supplies, BloombergNEF said.
