A. Sustainable Technology, Talent, Partnerships and Green IT Alliances
1. SEC Drops Scope 3?: The SEC has dropped a requirement for U.S.-listed companies to disclose Scope 3 emissions, which was included in its original draft of the rules published in March 2022, the sources said, Fast Company reported.
2. Partnership - Energy Cost Management: Arcus Power and Enel North America are partnering to "improve energy management for corporations," the two companies said.
3. Partnership - Telecom Services: L&T Technology Services and AT&T inked a strategic alliance "aimed at curbing global emissions," the two companies said.
4. Partnership - Edge Applications: NTT DATA and Schneider Electric have partnered to integrate Edge, Private 5G, IOT, and Modular Data Centers. The effort supports Generative AI applications deployed at the edge, the two firms said.
5. Telecom Network Equipment: Nokia has committed to reducing its total global greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) to net zero by 2040, accelerating its previous target by ten years, the company said.
6. Retail Supply Chain: Walmart said its suppliers have removed 1 billion metric tons of greenhouse-gas emissions from their value chains, six years ahead of the target date, The Wall Street Journal reported.
7. Startups: Keep an eye on Zirow, a startup that's "on a mission to redefine event management by integrating sustainability into every celebration.
B. Sustainability M&A, Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Funding - Solar Power: SunPower secured more than $300 million in new financing commitments, a possible sign of renewed investor confidence in the solar company, Bloomberg reported. The funding surfaced after former CEO Tom Werner rejoined the solar company as executive chairman of the board. SunPower announced a restructuring plan and various operating cost cuts in January 2024.
2. Investment: Australia's GreenCollar has invested in carbon, energy and sustainability-focused advisory firm, EnergyLink Services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
3. Investment - Data Centers: TC Global Investments Americas LLC, a group company of Tokyo Century, is investing in NTT Global Data Centers Americas' Chicago data center campus. The campus will consist of three data centers and deliver a total of 104MW critical IT capacity, the companies said. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
