Syensqo Names VP of Sustainable Partnerships

January 3, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Syensqo, a science and technology company focused heavily on sustainability, has named Dominique Debecker as VP of sustainable partnerships.

Syensqo, which spun off from Solvay in 2023, specializes in clean mobility, biotechnology and circular economy solutions for homes, food and consumer goods, planes, cars, smart devices, and healthcare applications. The company, based in Brussels, Belgium, has roughly 13,000 employees across 30 countries.

Syensqo is focused on four growth opportunities:

  1. Advancing thermoplastic composites to reduce weight and emissions;
  2. Providing environmentally responsible solutions for the next generation of batteries;
  3. Accelerating the green hydrogen economy; and
  4. Supporting the transition to a carbon-neutral future through the use of renewable materials and biotechnology.

We'll be watching to see if or how Debecker builds partnerships across those four business opportunities.

Debecker joined Syensqo from Solvay amid the December 2023 business spin-off, according to his LinkedIn bio. He previously was deputy chief sustainability officer at Solvay. Among his responsibilities: Advising Solvay's executive committee about sustainability risks and opportunities that may impact corporate P&L (profit and loss) performance.

On the sustainability front, Synesqo is seeking to reduce its Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 23% by 2030. The company also is seeking to cut Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 40% by 2030.
