A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Strategies
1. Partnership - ITAD and ESG Data: Apto Solutions and Bloom ESG will integrate IT asset disposition services with ESG data, allowing customers to track avoided carbon emissions at the client level; integrate environmental reporting into their broader ESG strategies; and leverage opportunities to generate commercial value through carbon insetting, the companies said.
2. Partnership - Data Management: Cisco, with help from Deloitte, built a sustainability data foundation (SDF) -- which provides sustainability-related data for thousands of Cisco products. 3. Partnership - IT Hardware: The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Lenovo plan to jointly developing programs that promote sustainable industrialization and responsible electronics management, the two organizations said.
4. Partnership - Stargate Data Center: STACK Infrastructure will deliver the digital infrastructure for the planned Stargate campus in Doña Ana County, New Mexico. Stargate is the OpenAI data center push that's backed by Oracle and Softbank.
5. Carbon Database: HowGood PBC, a market researcher and sustainability software developer for the food industry, has launched a global carbon database (GCD). The database is a library of "audit-ready emission factors designed specifically for food and agriculture," HowGood asserts.
6. Water and AI: Amazon and three partners organizations -- including The Water Environment Federation (WEF), The Water Center at the University of Pennsylvania (WCP), and The Leading Utilities of the World (Leading Utilities) -- have launched the Water-AI Nexus Center of Excellence. The knowledge hub will "develop sustainable water practices for AI infrastructure while also using AI to solve global water challenges," according to the founding members. B. Sustainable IT Investments, Funding, Earnings and Business Launches
1. Potential M&A - EV Charger Networks: EVgo CEO Badar Khan said the company is open to the idea of acquiring rivals, according to a Bloomberg interview.
2. M&A - EV Charging Technology: EnergyHub has acquired Bridge to Renewables (BTR) as part of its strategy to further optimize its EV charging technology. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
3. Financing - Crypto Data Centers: TeraWulf is expected to raise approximately $3 billion to support the build-out of its data centers via a structure supported by Google Inc., Bloomberg reported. The financing will emphasize sustainable bitcoin mining, OneSafe said.
4. AWS Space Accelerator: The accelerator in September 2025 selected 42 Indian startups focused on geospatial analytics, satellite propulsion, space sustainability and more, Analytics India Mag reported.
5. United Nations Accelerator: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Europe and Central Asia has launched the BOOST x CEF: Green Urban Tech open call. The call "seeks solutions that can turn real-time data into greener decisions, engage residents in sustainable lifestyles, and help build urban systems that are more resilient to climate and other risks," UNDP reported. Program participants can compete for up to US$30,000 in funding to adapt, pilot, or implement solutions in 2026.
C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies, Regulations and News
1. COP30 - Continued Housing Concerns: Although organizers are redoubling efforts to secure more rooms, representatives of developing and at-risk countries say they’re considering scaling back their presence at this year’s event, which would reduce their visibility and negotiating power. 2. United States - Coal Energy Policy and AI: The Trump administration expects most of the nation's coal-fired power plants to delay retirement to help deliver the vast amount of electricity needed to fuel AI, Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Reuters.
3. United States - California Carbon Regulations: The California Air Resources Board (CARB) published a preliminary list of entities that CARB believes may be subject to climate reporting under SB 253 and SB 219 (requiring corporate greenhouse gas reporting) and SB 261 (requiring climate-related financial risk disclosure), Hunton reported.
4. United States Carbon Policy - Tesla Lobbying: Tesla urged the Trump administration not to repeal vehicle emissions standards or the long-standing U.S. finding that greenhouse gas emissions endanger human health, Reuters reported.
5. India - Data Center Initiatives: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) Green Data Center Coalition today signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) to "jointly advance research, policy, and implementation strategies for greening India’s rapidly growing data center industry," the organizations said.
