Sustainable IT Services News for Channel Partners and MSPs: 20 August 2025

Here is today's sustainable IT services news, research and analysis -- written for channel partners, MSPs, green IT service providers, climate accounting professionals, and the chief sustainability officers (CSOs) they serve.

A. Sustainable IT Partnerships, Strategic Alliances and Strategies

1. Software - Energy Management Marketplace: Gravity, which develops a carbon accounting and energy management platform for enterprise customers, has launched a marketplace to help customers and partners further reduce energy costs and emissions.

2. Built Environments: The Thrive Collaborative and smart energy storage provider Sonnen are partnering to launch Veridian at the County Farm -- a master planned community in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that will feature a self-balancing energy ecosystem. The community, spanning 170 mixed-income homes, features:

  • Geothermal and advanced electric heat pumps for space and water heating;
  • Induction cooking, EV-ready charging, and all-electric appliances;
  • 1.3MW+ rooftop solar arrays; and
  • Sonnen Virtual Power Plant-based intelligent battery systems in every home.

B. Sustainable IT Investments, Funding, Earnings and Business Launches

1. Funding - Nuclear Energy for AI Data Centers: Aalo Atomics has raised $100 million in Series B fund led by Valor Equity Partners. Among the startup's top priorities: Build the Aalo-X platform "to prove product-market fit: speed, reliability, and economics for data centers. Then build thousands of Aalo Pods (five Aalo-1 reactors and one turbine per Pod), to power data centers at scale," the company said. Aalo Atomics, founded in 2023, is based in Austin, Texas.

2. Accelerator - TomorrowLab Startup Program: Tata Steel, IIT Bhubaneswar Research & Entrepreneurship Park (IIT BBSR REP) and India Accelerator (IA) partnered in August 2025 to launch the TomorrowLAB Accelerator Programme. The six-month program, set to launch in September 2025, aims to support high-potential startups, Machine Maker reported.

3. Accelerator - Financial Services: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) partnered with three Cambodian banks to launch the country’s first Climate Bank Accelerator (CBA) program. The focus: Build a "greener financial sector" that supports Cambodia’s transition to a low-carbon economy," Cambodianess reported.

4. Accelerator - AI Hub for Sustainable Development: Endorsed by the G7 leaders, the AI Hub for Sustainable Development is designed to re-imagine global AI partnerships and power local ecosystems with Africa, according to the organizers.

6. M&A - Energy Management Software: Honeywell acquired three grid software management products from SparkMeter. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Honeywell's Smart Energy business strives to help customers with "advanced tools that automate, simplify and optimize their daily planning, operations and existing grid assets," the company said.

C. Regional and Global Sustainability Policies, Regulations and News

1. COP30 - Net Zero Plans?: Brazil has issued an urgent call for all countries to come forward with strengthened national plans on the climate, in a last-ditch attempt to meet a key September deadline. Only 28 countries have so far submitted carbon-cutting proposals to the United Nations, with some of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases yet to produce their plans. (Source: The Guardian). 2. United States - Texas Renewable Energy Challenges: The state faces an energy crunch, but President Donald Trump’s budget bill will hurt renewable power — Texas’ fastest growing electricity source, Bloomberg asserts.

3. United States - Greenhouse Gas Policies: Attorneys general from California and several other U.S. states led by Democrats urged President Donald Trump's administration to abandon its plan to rescind the long-standing finding that greenhouse gas emissions endanger human health, a move that would remove the legal foundation for all U.S. greenhouse gas regulations, Reuters reported.

4. Australia - Net Zero Debate: Mining tycoon Gina Rinehart, Australia’s richest person, has urged the country to ditch its pursuit of net zero emissions, insisting the costs of climate action will devastate sectors from healthcare to logistics and defense, Bloomberg reported.
