Fresh Dog Food Company Ollie Hires Mia Davis as Chief Impact Officer: 4 Things to Know

August 23, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Ollie, a fresh dog food provider, has hired Mia Davis as chief impact officer -- a role that includes companywide sustainability responsibilities.

Here are four things to know about Ollie's business focus and sustainability strategy, and Mia Davis's experience and expertise.

1. Business Scope and Scale: Ollie, founded in 2016, is based in New York, New York. The company had 182 employees listed on LinkedIn as of August 2024. Ollie delivers freshly cooked, human-grade food that's personalized to each dog's nutritional needs, the company asserts. Ollie has raised roughly $68 million in funding since inception, according to tracxn.

2. Mia Davis's Experience and Expertise: Davis has more than two decades experience in such areas as corporate safety, social responsibility and sustainability.

She previously cofounded Pact Collective -- a nonprofit collective of beauty & wellness industry stakeholders taking responsibility for the impacts of the industry's packaging. Earlier, she held key roles at Credo Beauty, BeautyCounter, The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, and Clean Water Action.

3. Sustainability Strategy: With Davis onboard, Ollie in mid-2024 kicked off a sustainability assessment -- spanning Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions -- in oder to understand Ollie's current carbon footprint and to set target reduction goals in 2025, the company said. Moreover, Ollie will conduct the assessment annually in order to measure the company's progress toward net zero.

In the meantime, Ollie in the first half of 2024 achieved several sustainability goals. Key milestones, according to the company, included:

  • Joining the Pet Sustainability Coalition.
  • Transitioning from a paper feeding guideline to a digital version, saving the equivalent of 1.7 acres of forest, the company estimates.

Additional near-term goals, the company noted, include:

  • In the second half of 2024, sourcing certified and traceable sustainable proteins, and beginning to prioritize ingredients that are grown with more sustainable practices, such as regenerative farming methods.
  • Purshing strategic partnerships that emphasize packaging waste reduction, environmental health, and social responsibility policies.

4. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement, Ollie CEO Nick Stafford said: “Ollie is a pioneer in crafting fresh, human grade nutrition, to materially improve the health of America’s dogs. We are delighted to welcome Mia Davis to the Ollie pack as our CIO and extend that pioneering spirit to sustainability. With her proven track record of industry disruption and creating actionable change, she will lead Ollie’s important work in raising standards in the pet food industry.”

Added Davis: “I’m energized by Ollie’s commitment to create meaningful change. Understanding our growing company’s footprint — from carbon to chemicals to packaging — is the first step to forging a path forward that will take Ollie well beyond the current industry standards, and ultimately elevate the entire pet food industry.”

Chief Sustainability Officers: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
