Northwest Bank Senior VP Brenda Yurick is taking on the additional role of chief sustainability officer (CSO), the financial services firm said.

Here are four things to know about Yurick's experience and expertise, and Northwest Bank's sustainability strategy.

1. Business Scope and Scale: Northwest Bank, founded in 1896, is based in Warren, Pennsylvania. The bank's core locations 131 financial centers include Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana and Ohio. The company also provides free access to 55,000 ATMs across the United States.

2. Sustainability Goals: Northwest Bank points to various ESG improvements -- spanning HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), LED lighting and more. We're checking to see if the bank has announced an actual net-zero goal, and an associated carbon reduction timeline.

3. Executive Experience: Yurick, an attorney, joined Northwest Bank in August 2019. Over the past five years, she has risen to corporate VP and senior VP roles. In addition to the CSO role, Yurkick remains deputy chief counsel of the company. She previously held executive-level positions at TRG Closing Services and DOC Corporation. Yurick also was a partner at two law firms, and an attorney at another.

Looking ahead, Yurick will "work closely with the executive team, including Northwest’s chief inclusion officer, to champion the bank’s growing cultural and sustainability efforts," the company said.

4. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement about Yurick's role, Northwesst Bank President and CEO Lou Torchio said: “We are pleased to name Brenda as Northwest’s new chief sustainability officer. Her extensive experience in law, strategic business operations and sustainability aligns perfectly with our vision of fostering a responsible and forward-thinking financial institution."

Added Yurick: “I am excited to contribute to the growing sustainability efforts of Northwest. I look forward to working with our management team and employees to drive meaningful social impact, focus on risks related to sustainability and protect and empower all of our stakeholders – from the employee to the investor."

Chief Sustainability Officers (CSOs): Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
