HP Hires Lenovo Sustainability Veteran Claudia Contreras-Gomez for HP Renew Solutions

Global PC and printer giant HP Inc. has hired Lenovo veteran Claudia Contreras-Gomez as VP of HP Renew Solutions Product and Offer Management.

Hiring Contreras-Gomez reinforces HP's growing commitment to sustainable IT partner programs that promote circular economy and carbon reduction priorities, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.

We suspect Contreras-Gomez is working with Grant Hoffman, senior VP & general manager of the HP Renew Solutions business. We also suspect she'll interact closely with Mary Beth Walker, VP and head of global channel strategy at HP. We've reached out to HP to see if those suspicions are correct. What Are HP Renew Solutions?

HP Renew Solutions surfaced in 2023 or so, and have since expanded from India to additional regions.

The HP Renew Solutions portfolio includes such offerings as HP Device Life Extension to refresh and extend the life of aging devices, and HP Certified Refurbished PCs, Hoffman explained to Sustainable Tech Partner in May 2024.

In a November 2023 earnings call, HP CEO Enrique Lores explained the HP Renew Solutions program to Wall Street analysts. At the time, he stated: "As we innovate across our portfolio, we remain equally focused on our sustainable impact priorities. A great example is our recently announced HP Renew solutions. By enhancing our refurbishing capabilities, we are now able to extend the life of devices and drive peculiarity upscale. In addition to supporting our sustainability goals, this reduces total cost of ownership and create an accretive business. We have launched in India and we'll be expanding into other markets during fiscal year '24."

HP Sustainability Hire: Who Is Claudia Contreras-Gomez?

Claudia Contreras-Gomez -- a 22-year Lenovo veteran -- joined the HP Renew Solutions team in July 2024 as a "driven advocate for the business of sustainability," according to her LinkedIn profile.

Contreras-Gomez previously was executive director of global sustainability services at Lenovo, a PC and IT infrastructure giant that has achieved multiple sustainable IT milestones with partners.

While at Lenovo, Contreras-Gomez's role involved "enabling Lenovo products and services to be a positive impact to our environment, our community and our customers," her LinkedIn bio states. Moreover, she "developed and owned the business, strategy and execution of the Sustainability Services Portfolio" at Lenovo, her profile also mentions.

We're checking with Lenovo to see who will take on Contreras-Gomez's responsibilities.

HP Sustainability Strategy, R&D: What's Next?

HP's journey toward net zero, formerly led by Senior VP and Chief Sustainability Officer James McCall, involves multiple internal milestones along with various channel partner programs and tools for partners and customers. McCall exited HP in February 2024, according to his LinkedIn profile. We're checking to see where he landed, and whether HP has named a new CSO.

So what's next? HP is expected to attend ITAD 2024 -- an IT asset disposition conference scheduled for July 23-24 in Miami, Florida. Also, the HP Imagine 2024 gathering is set for September 24 at HP's global headquarters in Palo Alto, California. We'll be tracking both events for potential HP innovations and associated sustainability milestones.
