The latest agreement -- announced by Schneider Electric's Giuliana Auinger and HPE's Mohan Krishnan (pictured above and below) -- covers customer engagements across Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
The expanded HPE-Schneider Electric relationship, according to the two companies, involves:
HPE Services helping customers to understand their energy use and emissions within their IT estate.
Sustainability IT workshops to help customers understand and master sustainability metrics across workloads and their data centers.
HPE Asset Upcycling Services to give new life to used IT equipment. The circular economy effort is designed to reduce e-waste.
HPE GreenLake cloud services.
Schneider Electric consulting services to help organizations develop and execute enterprise-wide sustainability strategies. The sustainability strategies will align with customers’ energy efficiency projects and energy procurement.
The two companies have plenty of experience working together. The international relationship stretches back roughly 20 years.
Schneider Electric and HPE Partnership: Executive Perspectives
In a prepared statement about their expanded partnership, Mohan Krishnan, VP and general manager, HPE GreenLake Cloud Services, Asia Pacific, said: “This alignment enables our customers to partner closely with HPE and Schneider Electric and seamlessly tap into our collective suite of sustainability offerings. Together, we are able to offer customers an extremely detailed analysis of the carbon emissions footprint of their IT, and work with them closely to develop a bespoke strategy to improve the sustainability profile of their IT projects.”
Added Giuliana Auinger, head of sustainability business, Asia Pacific at Schneider Electric: “Schneider Electric is excited to collaborate closely with HPE to support our customers’ sustainable IT commitments in Asia Pacific. This agreement will enable more organizations to take advantage of the decades-long expertise we have in delivering IT solutions to enterprises in the region, and we look forward to helping customers manage their carbon footprint and shift towards clean, renewable energy.”
Schneider Electric Business Background: Sustainability and IT Solutions
This is Schneider Electric's second major Asia Pacific sustainability partnership in recent months. The other relationship involves HCLTech.
That journey toward net zero, led by HPE Chief Sustainability Officer Monica Batchelder, involves multiple internal milestones along with new green IT tools and sustainable software developments for partners and customers.
As of June 2023, HPE was previewing the sustainability dashboard and related services to help customers measure and reduce carbon footprints related to IT. Around the same time in the SMB (small and midsize business) market, HPE Financial Services expanded a Force for Good financing program -- which rewards organizations that demonstrate a measurable commitment to sustainability.
Also of note: The HPE Right Mix Advisor allows customers to calculate workload power consumption and estimate carbon footprint overall or at the application level. That service aligns with the HPE Edge-to-Cloud Adoption Framework to "enable support of sustainable IT goals in an organization’s operating model," the company said in June 2023.
At the high-end of the market, HPE evangelizes "sustainable supercomputers" that align with AI (artificial intelligence) software. During an August 2023 earnings call with Wall Street analysts, HPE CEO Antonio Neri said: "I think sustainability is becoming a key component of AI. When customers deploy AI they want to make sure they control the carbon footprint with it."
